PSC 01-11-96MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE PUBLIC SAFETY COMMISSION HELD JANUARY 11, 1996 CONFERENCE ROOM A, CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA 7:30 PM I. CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by the chair, Catherine McAuliffe. II. SALUTE TO THE FLAG: The Salute was led by the chair. III. ROLL CALL: Commissioners Present: McAuliffe, Molloy, Corr, Checkman Commissioners Absent: Zander Staff Present: Alex Wykoff, Code Enforcement Officer Lt. Huber, Sheriff's Department Sgt. Griffin, Sheriff's Department Marie Moore, Disaster Preparedness Coordinator Staff Absent: Chief Sporleder, Central Fire District Visitors Present: Chuck Pickett, Newly Appointed Commissioner IV. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: December minutes approved as submitted. V. REPORT FROM THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE: Lt. Huber discussed the officer involved shooting incident that occurred earlier this date in the area of N. Stelling Rd. and Homestead Rd. Apparently, a deputy effected a vehicle stop that resulted in shots being fired at the deputy once the stop was made. The deputy returned fire, however the suspect fled on foot in the area. A large, multi-agency perimeter and seamh was done of the area. The suspect was eventually apprehended by the SheriWs Department nearby in the City of Sunnyvale. There were no injuries reported by Lt. Huber for the incident. The Lt. reported that there were two recent armed robberies in Cupertino that resulted in large amounts of money being taken. The Great Western Bank located on De Anza Blvd. was robbed of approximately $254,000.00 by an unknown suspect. Additionally, the Tin-Tin Supermarket located on S. Blaney Ave. was also robbed by a group of suspects who stole an estimated $44,000.00. Lt. Huber reported that drunk driving arrests and domestic violence cases increased in the month of December, which is historically consistent with previous years. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS: Marie Moore from Disaster Preparedness gave the chair a memorandum regarding upcoming First Aid and CPR training. IX. OLD BUSINESS: Commissioner Molloy advised that although his term as commissioner has ended, he will advise the commission of any new information he receives as it relates to leaf blower particulates. X. NEW BUSINESS: The commission agreed to invite representatives from each water agency that services Cupertino to attend a future meeting. The commission requested that Jim Davis from Cupertino Water attend the February meeting to discuss the water system provided by Cupertino Water. Marie Moore, the Disaster Preparedness Coordinator also attended the meeting and discussed recent activity in disaster preparedness. XI. ADJOURNMENT: The meeting was adjourned at 9:30 PM.
