I. CALL TO ORDER:
The meeting was called to order by the chair, Chuck Corr.

February minutes approved as submitted.
V. REPORT FROM THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE:
Sgt. Griffin introduced Lt. Gonttfier of the Sheriff's Department. Lt. Gonthier is the newly appeinted
patrol supervisor for the County. Prior to his appointment, the highest ranking officer assigned to daily
patrol was the patrol sergeant Lt. Gonthier will work in patrol Thursday through Sunday, during the
swing shift.
Sgt. Griffin discussed the recent events at Ola's nightclub and the increase in security due to prior
problems. The Sheriff's Department now has two uniformed officers at the club to supplement the
existing security on nights when special events or concerts are being held. The Sgt. reported that he
estimated a two-thirds reduction in attendance since the extra security measures.
Sgt. Griffin distributed crime statistics. The statistics were in a new format and gave a total number
comparison of the same type of crime for the year 1995 and the completed year 1996. The crime
categories reported were armed robbei'y, residential burglary, grand theft, vandalism, juvenile disturbance,
property damage accidents, and speeding citations.
VI. REPORT FROM CENTRAL FIRE
None.
VII. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS:
Commissioner McAuliffe attended the Mayor's Breakfast. The Mayor discussed his thoughts on "class A"
roofs, rubber tire incineration at the Kaiser plant, and Freeway 85 noise abatement issues.

Alex Wykoff distributed commendation letters written by UndersheriffDiaz to Commissioners Con',
Pickett, and Checkman. The letters commended the commissioners on their recent appointment and re-
appointment to the Commission.
IX. OLD BUSINESS:
Rick Steele, District Manager fi.om Cai-Water attended the meeting to discuss Cai-Water's, water system.
Mr. Steele provided an informative overview of Cai-Water's service area, types and number of water
tanks, and types of lines. Mr. Steele advised thc commission one of thc problems Cai Water experienced
during the 1989 earthquake and the steps they took to compensate and correct the problem. Mr. Steele
also gave a brief overview of recent projects they are working on in Cupertino.
The commission continued discussing the 1996 commission work plan. The issues for 1996 are
earthquake kits, project review fi.om Public Works, traffic safety, Sheriff's Department service analysis,
Central Fire District sen, ice analysis, home safay, and ha?ardous material safety.
