PUBLIC SAFETY COMMISSION HELD APRIL 11, 1996

I. CALL TO ORDER:
The meeting was called to order by the chair, Chuck Corr.
II. SALUTE TO THE FLAG:
The Salute was led by the chair.
III. ROLL CALL:
Commissioners Present: Corr, Pickett, McAulitte, Checkman
Commissioners Absent: Zander
Staff Present: Alex Wykoff, Code Enforcement Officer

Captain Wilson, Sheriff's Department

IV. APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
March minutes approved as submitted.
V. REPORT FROM THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE:
Captain Wilson Introduced Assistant Sherffi'Diaz to the commission.
The Captain distributed and discussed statistics for the month of February. Captain Wilson commented
that Ola's Nightclub where there has been numerous police incidents is now closed.
The Captain reported that the past month has been fairly quiet. There has been a rise in various calls for
service at local schools. Most of the incidents have been related to fighting and drag use.
VI. REPORT FROM CENTRAL FIRE
Chief Sporleder distributed statistics for November, December, and January.
The Chief distributed a business plan for the fire district and briefly explained the material. This
information was also presented to the City Council for review.
Chief Sporleder explained to the commission his confidence in the fire hydrants and the entire water
system from a fire department standpoint.
VII. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS:
The chair received a citizen inquiry regarding the intersection of Portal Ave. and Stevens Creek Blvd.
The chair requested information from Staffto discuss at a future meeting.

ViII. WRITI'EN COMMUNICATIONS:
The chair received a communication via City-Net regarding the status of bike lanes on Stevens Creek
Blvd.
Staff distributed updated Council & Commission booklets.
IX. OLD BUSINESS:
None.
X. NEW BUSINESS:
The commission discussed earthquake kits. The commission agreed to pursue the ~tles of such kits for a
one day event such as a city festival. The chair is going to contact REI of Cupertino to ascertain ffthe
commission can buy kits on consignment for the sales event.
XI. ADJOURNMENT:
The meeting was adjourned at 8:45 PM.
