PUBLIC SAFETY COlVlMISSION HELD JUNE 13, 1996

I. CALL TO ORDER:
The meeting was called to order by the Chair, Chuck Corr.
II. SALUTE TO THE FLAG:
The Salute was led by the Chair.

IV. APPROVAL OF M1NLrrEs:
May minutes approved as submitted.
V. REPORT FROM THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE:
Lt. Slack distributed crime statistics through April and briefly commented on the new format with some
changes that were made to make them more accurate.
Lt. Slack discussed the risc in incidents in the local high schools and Jr. high schools. Various crimes
such as weapons violations, strong armed rolgcety, and child abuse cases are occurring and are currently
being investigated.
Lt. Slack briefed the commission on the recent "sting" investigation with the Alcohol Beverage Control
board (ABC) and the Sheriff's Department. Juveniles of various ages were monitored by the investigating
agencies and scnt into various Cupertino liquor stores to purchase alcohol. Loree Liquors, Valley Green
Liquors, and 7-11 (Homestead Rd.) all were cited for sclling alcohol to the minors.
VI. REPORT FROM CENTRAL FIRE
The Chief distributed fire statistics for the month of April and made note of the substantial risc in the
dollar mount loss for residential single-family duplex dwellings.
The Chief discussed a recent fire at the Narthpoint Condominium Complex. After the fire, a meeting was
held with the CFI) and the Nerthpoint residents to discuss the residents concerns.
Chief Sporleder commented that the latest neighborhood CERT class led by Marie Moore of Disaster
_ Preparedness was graduated in June.

VII. ORAL COI~flVlUNICATIONS
The Chair received a positive response from the City M~n~ger and City Clerk regarding business cards for
the commissioners.
VIII. WRI't-r~N COMMUNICATIONS:
Thc Chair communicated with Mayor Burnelt on Citynet regarding the bike lane issue on Stevens Cr~k
Blvd.
IX. OLD BUSINESS:
The Chair distributed a memorandum regarding the earthquake kit sales and plans for the upcoming Art
and Wine festival.
X. NEW BUSINESS:
The Chair gave the commission a synopsis of the evolution of the Cupertino Graffiti Task Force and
discussed the task force's goals.
XI. ADJOURNMENT:
The meeting was adjourned at 8:40 PM.
