The meeting was called to order by the Chair, Chuck Corr.

IV. APPROVAL OF M1NIJrES:
August minutes approved as submitted.
V. REPORT FROM THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE:
Captain Wilson disUibutexl crime statistics through July 1996. The Captain commented that no major
incidents were reported during this period, other than an injury accident that occurred at Copertino High
School, where several students were injured.
VI. REPORT FROM CENTRAL FIRE:
Chief Spofleder distributed fire statistics for the month of July and also a Post Incident Report for a recent
fire that occurred on Rainbow Drive.
The Central Fire District was recently awarded a service contract to provide fire services to the City of Los
Altos. Chief Sporleder comment~l that this would not effect the current fire service to Cupertino.
The Chief displayed to the commission, the most recent sketches of the new fire station that will be
located on the comer of Stevens Creek Blvd. and Vista Dr. The Chiefbridly commented on the progress
of both the Stevens Creek Station and the Monta Vista station regarding the upcoming renovations.
VII. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS:
Alex Wykoff described the new Code Enforcement bike patrol program to the Commission.
The Chair attended the recent Mayor's breakfast and informed the Commission that the Mayor would like
the Public Safety Commission to review the carrent city ordinance as it relates to dog "leash laws". The
Chair directed Alex Wykoff to ascertain a copy of the City of Los Altos' current ordinance pertaining to
dog and cat restraints.

X. NEW BUSINESS:
Vicki Guapo f~om the Public Works Department, Traffic Division attended the meeting at the request of
the Commission to give an update on projects that are in progress and answer various questions fi:om the
Commission.
Ms. Guapo discussed and presented a video as it related to "traffic roundabouts". Ms. Guapo informed the
Commission that the City was possibly considering installing a traffic roundabout an the intersection of S.
Stelling Road and Huntridge Drive. Ms. Guapo also informed the Commission that red light monitoring
devices termed "rat-tails" are in place at various locations throughout the city to aid traffic officers safely
and effectively enforce red light violations.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:20 PM.
