PSC 10-10-96 MIND'fES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE PUBLIC SAFETY COMiVIISSlON HELD OCTOBER 10, 1996 CONFERENCE ROOM A, CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA 7:30 PM I. CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by the Vice-Chair, Chuck Pickett. II. SALUTE TO THE FLAG: The Salute was led by the Vice-Chair. III. ROLL CALL: Commissioners Present: Pickett, Checkman, Zander Commissioners Absent: Corr Staff Present: Alex Wykoff, Code Enforcement Officer Captain Wilson, Sheriff's Department Dirk Mattern, Central Fire District Staff Absent: Chief Sporleder, Central Fire District IV. APPROVAL OF M1NLrFES: September minutes were approved as submitted. V. REPORT FROM THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE: Captain Wilson distributed crime statistics through September 1996. The Captain commented on the recent rise in auto theft for Cupertino. He further stated that the County Auto Theft Task Force, will soon be working within Cupertino in an attempt to reduce this type of crirae. The Captain also commented that a recent study was conducted on SherilFs Department response times to various types of calls for service. The following information was reported to the commission. Priority 1 Calls .......... approximately 4 minutes Priority 2 Calls .......... approximately 9 minutes Priority 3 Calls .......... approximately 20 minutes The Captain commented that he was pleased with the response times for Cupertino. VI. REPORT FROM CENTRAL FIRE: Dirk Mattem from the Central Fire District distributed fire statistics for the month of August and briefly discussed and answered questions regarding a recent apartment fire that occurred on Rainbow Drive. VII. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS: Commissioner Checkman informed the commission that he attended the recent SERT training exposition sponsored by the Sheriffs Department. NEW BUSINESS: Dirk Maltern from the Central Fire District attended the meeting to discuss the issue of class "A' fire roofs. Mr. Mattern discussed the various types of roofing material currently available, and what the rating system is for the different types of roofs. Mr. Mattem briefed the commission on the City's consideration of enacting an ordinance that would require all new homes or homes that are being re-roofed, to be roofed with a class "A" rated roof.
