October minutes were approved as submitl~d.
V. REPORT FROM THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE:
Lt. Slack distributed year to date crimc statistics through October 1996. He further commented on several
progr~m~ that are currently being conducted in Cupertino, such as thc "Teen Academy" held at City Hall,
extra traffic enforcement around the schools, and a new neighborhood watch type program between the
City, Sheriff's Department, and the Seven Springs community.
VI. REPORT FROM CENTRAL FIRE:
Chief Sporleder distributed crime statistics for the month of September.
The Chief commenUxl on the recent fire services conUact acquisition for the City of Los Altos and the
Town of Lns Altos Hills, Chief Sporleder stated that the major cost savings from the new contract will be
from a reduction in administrative costs.
There was a recent ground breaking ceremony for the new Monta Vista Fire Station and construction is
now underway. The ground breaking for the new fire station on Stevens Creek Blvd. at Vista Dr. is
scheduled to occur in the spring of 1997.

X. NEW BUSINESS:
City Manager, Don Brown, introduced Klm Walters, a consultant from the Public Dialogue Consortium,
and an educator from De Anza College. Ms. Walters described and discussed the recent community focus
group meetings and their topics for discussion. Two of the areas that were determined to be of impoxtance
to the community wese cultural richness and community safety. Eight discussion groups within the last
two months have been held to analyze these issues, and a "Town Hall Meeting" will be held to present all
of the information that was gathered from the small group discussionS.
Alex Wykoff from Code Enforcement discussed the "leash law" municipal code as it relates to dog
restraints.
