IV. APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
The March minutes were approved as con'ected. April minutes approved as submitted.
V. REPORT FROM THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE:
Lt. Slack distributed crime statistics through the month of April 1997.
Sgt. Griffin briefly described to the commie, sion the recent arrest of individuals caught spray painting
graffiti in the area of Hwy 280 ami FcothiH Blvd~ Sgt. Griffin commented that the arrestees were from
VI. REPORT FROM CENTRAL FIRE:
Chief Sporled~r distributed fire statistics through March 1997 and fire summaries from three recent fires.
Bill Hardwicke of Central Fire brought in Dolph, the arson investigation dog. Mr. Hardwicke and Dolph
gave a demonstration to the commission of Dolph's abilities and informed thc commission of Dolph's
training and prlnmnd uses.
Chief Sporleder commented on the current SERT class that is being taught by Marie Moore, the Cupertino
Disaster Preparedness Coordimator.

VII. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS:
Commissioner Checkmun attended the recent Mayor's Bre~lr~t and infonned Mayor Bautista that the
commission was pursuing thc neighborhood wash program and thc Sheriff's School Resource Officer
position. He also diseussxi the video he was a guest on for public access television. The program will be
aired in the near future according to commissioner Checkma~
Commissioner Zunder advised the commission that he will be contacting the Seattle Department of
Transportation, Director of Bicyclists and Pedestrians to obtain informatinn on possible future agenda
issnes.
VIII. WRII-I~.N COMMUNICATIONS:
None.
IX. OLD BUSINESS:
Commissioner Drexler stated that the vendor for the neighborhood watch signs is able to prim the signs in
other languages. Commissioner Corr reported that Bert Viskovich, Director of Public Works will follow
up on thc design of the neighborhood watch signs. The Chair advised that he would contact Sheriff's
Crime Prevention to obtain information regarding the Neighborhood Watch Program that could be
distribmed at the upcoming Wine & Art Festival.
Thc Chair advised the commission that a let~r of recommendation for the School Resource Officer was
sent to the Mayor and City Council.
X. NEW BUSINESS:
The Chair met with Ernest Tsul from the Telecomm,mications Commi.~ion, to discuss a public safety
video. The Telecommunications Commission is interested in utilizing the Public Safety Commission in a
consulting role for information for producing the video.
The commission discussed inviting Steve Toler, MIS Mannger, to a futura mceting to discuss the
Cupertino web page.
