PUBLIC SAFETY COMMISSION HELD JULY 10, 1997

I. CALL TO ORDER:
The meeting was called to order by the Chair, Chuck Pickett.
II. SALUTE TO THE FLAG:
The Salute was led by the Chair.
III. ROLL CALL:

IV. APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
June minutes approved as submitted.
V. REPORT FROM THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE:
None
VI. REPORT FROM CENTRAL FIRE
The Chief distributed fire statistics for the months of April and May.
Chief Sporleder advised the commission that the Independence Day celabmtion was very quiet. There
were no reported firework related fires in Cupertino this season.
The brush abatement program that is intended to reduce the amount of foliage fuel in Cupeaino is going
very well and all affected properties are in compliance. There was no enforcement action that was needed
for any property within the City.
The Chief informed the commission that the Monta Vista Fire Station is scheduled to be ready for service
by approximately late August or early September.
VII. ORAL COMMLrNICATIONS
Commissioner Drexler attended the June Mayor's Breakfast. Commissioner Drexler informed the Mayor
and other commissioners of the Public Safety Commission's endorsement of the Sheriff's School Resource
Officer, the commission's plan for the Public Safety Commission booth at the Wine & Art Festival, thc
C.E.R.T. course, and the Citizens Police Academy.
There will not be any July Mayor's breakfast. The next breakfast will be in August.

VIII. WRITrlzN COMMUNICATIONS:
Staff disUibuted a copy of the memorandum that was writ~n to the City Traffic Engineer as it relates to
the commissions discussion of the Neighborhood Watch program.
IX. OLD BUSINESS:
The commission discussed the planning for the Wine & Art Festival. The commission agreed to have
approximately five eardiquake kits for sale at the festival. Staff and the Chair will obtain the
Neighborhood Watch information stand from the Sheriff's Department. The Chair will follow up with
Deputy Dutra to ascertain if any other Neighborhood Watch pamphlets are available to distrilmte.
X. NEW BUSINESS:
The commission agreed to move the Web Site discussion to the September meeting.
The commission approved a motion to cancel the August meeting.
XI. ADJOURNMENT:
The meeting was adjourned at 8:50 PM.
