Teen 03-04-02CUPE INO Teen Commission Regular Meeting Monday, March 4, 2002 - 5 p.m. Cupertino Senior Center- Reception Hall 21251 Stevens Creek Blvd. Approved Minutes CALL TO ORDER Chairperson Noone called the meeting to order at 5:00pm PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE ROLL CALL Commissioners Present: Busch, Colloton, Deora, Fang, Gatley, Golkar, Lin, Noone, Zen Commissioners Absent: Kolev, Liu Staff Present: Frey, Hanel, Smith, Christian COMMUNICATIONS a) Oral- none b) Written- email from Therese Smith that discuss under website. UNFINISHED BUSINESS a) Job Faire Date has been set to April 27, 2002 from 1 lam-4pm A survey was passed out at Cupertino High School and Monta Vista High School. 1070 students were tallied. The commissioners assigned jobs as to what they would each be responsible for. The jobs include sending out letters to a variety of Cupertino businesses asking those businesses to participate in the job faire. The individual jobs also include finding internship opportunities as well as volunteer opportunities. b) Website Motion was made by Golkar and seconded by Colloton to reorganize the website to add a photo page. Motion passed unanimously. Different polling questions were also discussed and the commissioners decided to change the polling question to a question dealing with summer jobs. c) Selection Process Update No update d) "We Value Youth" Project Motion was made by Lin and seconded by Fang to represent the "We Value Youth" Project on the website and to also add a link to the Mayor and Chamber of Commeme. Motion passed unanimously. The Mayor is encouraging the teens to go to City Council and ask council to make one tough decision in favor of the teens. Golkar gave an additional update of progress of the project. NEW BUSINESS a) BBQ Stil~ in discussion and Noone is checking into prices at Blackberry Farm. b) Sports Center Therese Smith solicited teen ideas of how to get more input for the sports center. The commissioners recommended that she go to Cupertino and Monta Vista High School leadership classes and promote interest to those classes. The commissioners also discussed that if there should be sport center meeting, it be in one location, with no adults for a more comfortable atmosphere.
