CALL TO ORDER
Chairman Lin called the meeting to order at 5:31 pm
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
ROLL CALL
Commissioners Present: Castaneda, Deora, Fang, Gatley, Goyal, Haley, Kolev, Lee, Lin, Liu,
Schroeder, Trang, Zen
Commissioners Absent: none
Staff Present: Frey, Christian
COMMUNICATIONS
a) Oral- Janet Mohr, representative from the Fine Arts Commission. The Fine Arts
Commission is interested in giving art production funding grants to teens in Cupertino.
She came to the Teen Commission to see if they thought teens would be interested in the
idea. Motion made by Deora and seconded by Haley to put this item on a future agenda
and invite Janet to a future commission meeting to discuss this topic further. Motion
passed.
b) Written- Article about the Teen Commission, from the San Jose Mercury News, "The
Guide", was shared with the commission.
OLD BUSINESS
Motion made by Lin and seconded by Deora to reorder the agenda, and have Shirley Chang and
Angira Day speak first. Motion passes.
a) Goals- Dances-
Motion made by Deora, and seconded by Gatley to try one high school dance by the end
of the school year. Motion passes.
b) CCS Food Drive-
Motion made by Gatley and seconded by Haley to adopt a family as a Teen Commission.
Motion passes. Motion made by Lin, and seconded by Lee to adopt a four person family.
Motion passes. Motion made by Goyal, and seconded by Haley to participate in the bell
ringing program as a commission. Motion passes.
NEW BUSINESS
a) Shirley Chang, CCS- talked about way the Teen Commission can get involved in
volunteer opportunities.
b) Angira Day, Diversity Parade- Talked about the Lunar New Year Diversity Parade, that
will be held in March in Cupertino. She also discussed the fundraiser that will be taking
place in November. She would like the commission to help her find more participants for
the diversity fashion show.
c) Sub-Committee Reports
a. Job Faire-
Motion made by Deora, and seconded by Haley to have the Job Faire during the
hours of 10am- 1pm. Motion passes, Motion made by Deora, and seconded by
Lee to have the Job Faire on March 29, 2003 at the Quinlan Community Center,
Cupertino Room. Motion fails.
Motion made by Lin, and seconed by Deora to move item to next agenda. Motion
passes.
b. Website-
Motion made by Lin, and seconded by Lee to move website discussion to next
agenda. Motion passes.
