PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION
CITY OF CUPERTINO
REGULAR MEETING
THURSDAY, April 5, 2007
The Parks and Recreation Commission held its monthly meeting at the Rancho
Rinconada facility for a neighborhood meeting. Commissioners present were Jeanne
Bradford, David Greenstein, and David Lee. 25 plus people attended from the
community and the following people left their contacts, D. Mendes, Joe Thompson,
Pat Bustamante, Michael Pollock, Julie Pollock, Eileen Donaldson, Jennifer Griffin,
Ahmed Dooble, Leon Liebster, Yuhua Shuieh, Sunny Sun, Aliya Merchant, Asma
Merchant, and Patti Co hens.

6. NEW BUSINESS -
A. Rancho Rinconada Neighborhood and Sterling Barnhart brainstorming - Therese
Smith introduced Rancho Rinconada. Acquiring the land is approximately $1
million for a total of 1/3 acre. Bruce Hill described the footprint of the 1/3 of an
acre property. Showed the diagram of the site analysis including trails,
connection site, water, etc. He introduced how to do the "Neighborhood design"
with the footprint and cutouts.
B. Friends of Steven Creek Trail
Roy Verley provided an overview of Friends of Stevens Creek Trail. Existence
since 1993 to support local efforts to think through a way Stevens Creek trail
would look like from Mountain View to Santa Cruz. Currently there are 4 paved
miles of the trail and 3 more in construction. Cupertino had significant
accomplishments by being part of phase I. Los Altos has decided to start looking
at options on how to accommodate a new trail to the connecting City of
Cupertino.
7. MISCELLANEOUS - NO ACTION REQUIRED
A. Budget update: Therese Smith explained that there are no major budget cuts this
year. The Blackberry Farm I position is no longer needed due to its closure.
There is still a maintenance person employed, but other than that, no staff is
needed. Blackberry Golf Course has been reassigned to Don McCarthy, Julia
Lamy is now in charge of the Blue Pheasant, and McClellan Ranch is part of
Christine Hanel's jurisdiction. Tom Walter who has Quinlan Center, now has
everything else, including 4th of July, cultural programs, and will have Blackberry
in May of 2009 when it re-opens. Parks and Rec would like the extra position to
be used as a Park Planner and with the Council approval, especially with all the
new projects this year.
B. Bunny Run is this weekend and Bunny Brunch is tomorrow for 300 preschoolers
at Creekside Park. First block party request by DeAnza Oaks neighborhood and
bunny will be appearing at the egg hunt.
C. Upcoming Council items: budget workshop is May 30th and many capital
improvements will be discussed for that meeting. Rancho Rinconada will have a
dollar amount by then to provide at this meeting.
D. Commissioner David Greenstein reported that Hoover Park now has a port-a-
potty on location.
8. ADJOURNMENT
Vice Chairman Bradford adjourned the meeting at 8:43 p.m.
