LIB 05-02-07 City of Cupertino Library Commission Regular Meeting May 2, 2007 1. CALL TO ORDER At 7:00 p.m., Commissioner Ron Miller called the meeting to order at Cupertino City Hall, 10300 Torre A venue, Conference Room C, Cupertino. 2. ROLL CALL Commissioners: Ram Gopal, Ron Miller, Janet Riddell, Kathy Stakey. Susanna Tsai Citv/County Staff: Pamela Moore, Sarah Flowers Absent: None 3. MINUTES Commissioner Janet Riddell moved to approve the minutes of the April 4, 2007 regular meeting. Commissioner Gopal seconded and the motion passed unanimously. 4. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS - None. 5. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS - None. 6. CUPERTINO COMMUNITY LIBRARIAN'S REPORT Pamela Moore reviewed the attached monthly report. 7. COUNTY LIBRARIAN'S REPORT Sarah Flowers reviewed the attached monthly report. 8. ST AFF REPORTS Commissioner Janet Riddell moved to accept the Program overview for the budget document. Commissioner Kathy Stakey seconded and motion passed unanimously. 9. OTHER REPORTS A. Friends of the Library It was noted that the book sale would be held on June 2nd and 3rd. B. Library Foundation October membership recruitment. C. Mayor's Breakfast Liaison No report. D. Commissioners a. Goal subcommittee The Commission reviewed and edited the draft of goals which were approved by all commissioners. Final copy will be distributed on a later date. May 2, 2007 Library Commission Minutes Page 2 b. Parking subcommittee The Commission reviewed document number one and decided to continue assessing peak times at the library. c. Other commissioner reports Mary Ann Wallace retirement luncheon will be held on May 3. The Library Issues Breakfast will be held on May 12. 10. NEW BUSINESS A. DVD Kiosks Commissioner Ron Miller reported that the cost at Safeway is $1.50 for 24 hours. Further discussion on the item will continue at the next meeting. 11. OLD BUSINESS A. Building Issues It was noted that the story room and children's area lighting has not yet been corrected. It was also noted that the restroom towel "clutter" continues to be monitored. B. Library Foundation Librarians Cervantes and Moore talked about a Bregman random community survey that placed a high valuation on the library's book collection. The periodical section is being looked at for ways to reduce the sound level and increase space in that area. 12. CALENDAR The Commission reviewed and accepted the calendar as prepared by Commissioner Tsai. 14. ADJOURNMENT The meeting was adjourned by unanimous consent at 9:33 pm.
