CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order by Vice Chair Charles Pow at 7:30 p.m.

Commission Homepage
A homepage has been created for the Library Commission by Homestead High School students.
The Commission homepage will be linked from the city homepage. Commissioner Pow brought
the page on a laptop and the Commission gave input on the format.
Graphic Art Grant Administration
The Web Art Contest forms were distributed and have been also delivered to schools and the
recreation deparanent as well as to the library.
RFP for a library design consultant and feasibility study
Deputy County Librarian Julie Farnsworth reported on the changes in the RFP. The Commission
discussed the plans. Several members asked where consideration of a branch would be examined.
Both the needs assessment and the feasibility study will have a place to study this issue.
The Commission agreed to serve as the body to interview building consultants for the needs
assessment and make a recommendation to the City Council by the end of January. The
Commission voted unanimously to accept the final draft of the RFP.
Standing Reports
The Foundation brochure on planned giving was di.~'ibuted. A letter requesting contributions
to the Foundation will be mailed to all Commissioners and Foundation members as well as
members of the public. A copy of the letter was distributed.
The Foundation appreciated the advice of the consultant supported by the State Library grant.
Friends of the Library
The Friends have new interim officers. The list of officers is on the library's home page.
Another election will take place in March 1997.
Commissioner Pow reported on the Mayor's breakfast.
There was no update.
CITY LIBRARIAN'S REPORT

COUNTY LIBRARIAN'S REPORT
The IPA met on October 23, 1997. The Board left the current policy intact and accepted the staff
recommendations on educational options. They also directed that a IPA committee on technology
be formed and asked County Counsel to pursue a declamatory relief judgment in court.
COMMISSIONER'S COMMENTS AND AGENDA BUILDING
Commissioner Bedord reported on her visit to the new Mountain View Library.
Commissioner Wu spoke to the principal of a Chinese school. Commissioner Wu and Mary-Ann
Wallace will visit the school to discuss the library in the near future.
Commissioner Minow suggest a very brief agenda for December so the Commission can
concentrate on library consultant interviews.
Commissioner Pow called Staceys to ask them to include the library in their profit sharing day.
ADJOURNMENT
Commissioner Pow adjourned the meeting to December 16, 1997 at 7:30 p.m.
