STANDING REPORTS:
Library Foundation: The Foundation held an executive board meeting of the
officers in December, but cancelled its regular board meeting. President Jim
Orloff, with help from Board members, has been busy sending out the annual
mailers. All of the paper, envelope, printing and postage costs were paid for by
a recent grant from the California State Library. The Foundation Board has
decided to move the regular board meeting from the 3rd Wednesday to the 4th
Wednesday of the month at 7:00 pm. The next Cupertino Library Foundation
Board meeting will be held on Wednesday, January 28, 1998 at 7:00 pm.
Friends of the Library: The Friends have been busy working on a set of bylaws
to be presented to the entire group at an upcoming Friends meeting. On
Monday, December 8, 1997 a group of approximately 20 members of the
Friends got together to wrap over 380 paperback books as gifts for the CCS
holiday baskets.
Calendar update: CALTAC (California Association of Library Trustees and
Commissioners) workshop is slated for Saturday, March 7, 1998 at the new

COMMISSIONERS' COMMENTS and AGENDA BUI~JDINC~:
ChAirperson Hamer asked about out of order signs that seem to be posted
often on the same couple ofterwinals. Librarian Wallace noted that one
teradnal is slated to be removed from the public area until it can be repaired.
Other signs are posted on teL'L~'~inals only until the system office can clear the
particular problem, which usually happens within a half hour or hour at most.
Commissioner Minow reminded the group that the election of officers should be
placed on the January agenda.
In answer to questions, Commissioner Bedord told the group that things were
still uncertain at Dialog / Knight Ridder, since its recent acquisition.
Commissioner Pow told the group that he is in the process of contacting the
manager of a local bookstore about possible ideas for library support.
Commissioner Wu told the group that she is in the process of trying to set up
some library staff/cowmlssioner visits to local Chinese schools. She would like
any calendar update infor~-r~ation from commissioners by January 5th.
