CALL TO ORDER
Chairperson Kathy Stakey called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.

MINUTES
There is one correction in the December Minutes. Commissioner Schmidt agreed to
collect information for whichever commissioner would do the presentation to the city
council. With this correction, the Minutes of the December 18, 2001 meeting were
approved as amended.
ORAL COMMUNICATION
None.
WRITTEN COMMUNICATION
None.
NEW BUSINESS
The election of officers will be on the next commission agenda.
The Parks and Recreation Commission meeting this week will feature a presentation on
the Civic Center Plaza.
OLD BUSINESS
Standing Reports:
Legislative Update: County Librarian Susan Fuller reported that the Public Library Fund
(PLF) has been cut substantially in the Governor's Budget.
Sister Libraries: Commissioner Wu reported that Cupertino Library should receive one or
two boxes of gif~ books from the Hsinchu City Library in February or March.
ROLL CALL
Present:
Library Foundation: Returns from the annual mailer are still being received. The
foundation board will hold an upcoming training session for board members. Board
President Dorothy Stow and Librarian Mary-Ann Wallace attended a conference entitled:
Blueprint for a Library Capital Campaign given by Glen Gilbert, and will be passing the
information along to the board members. The next meeting of the foundation board will
be held on Wednesday, January 23, 2002.
Friends of the Library: The next Friends membership meeting will be held on Monday,
February 4, 2002.
Mayor's Breakfast: Commissioner Mohan attended and reported on the Mayor's
Breakfast in January. Commissioner Riddell will attend in February. Commissioner
Schmidt will attend in March.
Calendar: Commissioner Schmidt has been away and there is no report at this time.
CITY LIBRARIAN'S REPORT

COUNTY LIBRARIAN'S REPORT
County Librarian Fuller reported that the new self-check machines have been installed in
all of the Santa Clara County Library member libraries. The next Joint Powers Authority
meeting will be held on January 24, 2002 at Campbell Library. There will be a new self-
check machine demonstration held after the JPA meeting. All of the Friends groups have
received copies of the petition to the governor to restore the ERAF money. The petitions
will be sent to Senator Speier's office. The construction bids for Saratoga Library came
in under, which is good. The new Saratoga Library is now about a year from completion.
COMMISSIONERS' COMMENTS AND AGENDA BUILDING
Commissioners discussed topics for the first presentation to the City Council in February
to be given by Commissioner Mohan.
