7/8.Director stated that representatives from Cupertino Las Madres 1993 playgroup and Cupertino Las
Madres 1994 playgroup are seeking approval to become co-sponsored clubs. Both clubs meet the
requirements for co-sponsorship and their programs are consistent with the purpose of Las Madres
clubs.
Commissioner Lohmiller moved and Commissioner Hopkins seconded a motion to approve co-
sponsorship of Las Madres 1993 and Las Madres 1994. All in favor. Motion approved.
Director Dowling reported that the dedication ceremony of the Elisha Stephens marker is scheduled for
Saturday, April 1, 11:00 a.m. in the parking lot of Blackberry Farm Golf Course. Director also reported
that the Faria school field dedication is also being held on Saturday, April 1, 9:00 a.m.

Director reported on the community gardens proposal that explores a system that would give more of
the day-to-day operational and enforcement responsibilities to the gardeners while the Recreation
Department would retain control of finances, maintenance, and serve as an appeal body. Director
reported that they are in the very early stages of designing this approach.

MONTHLY REPORTS
13. Director reported on the CPRS District IV Volunteer Awards banquet. He also stated that the Parks and
Recreation Department is currently negotiating with the Cupertino Union School District regarding
taking over the district's after-school enrichment program beginning in the Fall of 1995. He also noted
that over 5,000 people attended the Ikebana Flower show at the Quinlan Community Center.
14. Commissioner Hopkins reported on his community contact. He attended the 15th anniversary
celebration at the Cupertino Senior Center.
MISCELLANEOUS
15. There was no legislative update.
16. Chairman Quinlan reported on the Mayor's breakfast meeting.
17. Director said that after a lengthy discussion, the planning commission supported the parks and
recreation commission's recommendation regarding pocket parks along the Stevens Creek plan line.
The planning commission sent back a thought that from their perspective neighborhoods L-1 and L-2
were going to be short of park land.

18. Commissioner Hendrickson moved and Commissioner Hopkins seconded the motion to adjourn at 7:28
p.m. to the regular meeting of the Parks and Recreation Commission on Thursday, April 6 1995, 7:00
p.m. Council Chambers. All in favor. Motion carried.
