Regular meeting of the Parks and Recreation Commission called to order at 7:03 p.m. SALUTE TO THE FLAG 2. ROLL CALL 3. Commissioners present: Commissioners absent: Staff present: ORAL COMMUNICATIONS 4. None. Hopkins, Lohmiller, Shaikh, and Chairman Jelinch Vice-Chairperson Stein Stephen Dowling, Director of Parks and Recreation Pamela Eggen, Recording Secretary UNFINISHED BUSINESS 5. None. PRC # 196 Approved Call to order Salute to Flag Roll Call Chairman Jelinch asked if there were any questions and commented how extensive the project is. Commissioner Hopkins asked how the funding would be handled. Ms. Shriber answered that the Streamside Park Committee would work with the various cities to get the grants that are yet to be determined. · In 1992, the County Board of Supervisors created an ad-hoc Citizen's Advisory Committee consisting of 15 representatives to inquire the feasibility of creating the Streamside Trail. · The group received funds from the county to do a study that was completed in 1996. · An EIR phase just recently began. The committee made a recommendation to make a decision based on environmental and geo-technical information. · The City of Santa Clara received $450,000 in grant money to open various portions of the trail along water districts levees and also negotiated with the Water District in an agreement for joint use. · A draft master plan and draft EIR is expected in late August or early September. · The location of the alignment of the trail as noted on the Stevens Creek Trail Master Plan Map. · Some of the obstacles include 27 bridges in 11 miles. · Streamside Park Committee was successful in securing funds from Santa Clara County to investigate the feasibility of constructing a pedestrian and bicycle trail along the creek corridors. NEW BUSINESS 6. Ruth Shriber, Project Manager, of Santa Clara County Parks and Recreation Department, and Susan sanxomas Aquino Landry, Sokale/Landry Collaborative, presented both county and streamside park plans. She mentioned saratoga the following: creek Trail Master Plan Director Dowling said the County is funding the feasibility study. He said once that is completed, the local jurisdictions would do the implementation. Ms. Shriber stated there were grant funds available for this type of trail Commissioner Shaikh inquired about safety issues. Ms. Shriber answered that a team of consultants have taken this into consideration with the master plan. 7. Commissioner Lohmiller moved and Commissioner Hopkins seconded the motion to approve the Motion minutes of March 5, 1998. All in favor. Motion carried. 8. None. 9. Director Dowling presented the monthly report making note of the positive experience regarding Creekside Park. 10. Commissioner Hopkins announced the Cherry Blossom Festival - April 25 and 26. 11. None. 12. Director Dowling announced Cupertino Day May 2, 11:00 am. Mr. Dowling also announced that employee, Jennifer Richardson, accepted a job in Foster City. 13.
