Director Dowling introduced Ruth Shriber, Santa Clara County Parks and Recreation, and
Susan Lindskog, Landscape Architect, to the Parks and Recreation Commission.
Ruth Shriber presented the redesign of the San Tomas Aquino/Saratoga Creek Trail Master
Plan as it pertained to the Barrington Bridge Area in Reach 5. She pointed out to the
commissioners the two potential alternative routes. Ms. Shriber stated they met with neighbors
regarding the Barrington Bridge area and favorable results were achieved.
Leon Leibster, President of Rancho Rinconcada Recreation Association, stated they approved
the incorporation of locking the gates at the north and south end of the trail.
Bob Campbell, Barrington Bridge Subcommittee, said he would like to see the parking issues
by the pool area solved in the planning stages.
Commissioner Lowenthal asked if there was a link to the bike program and the trails.
Director Dowling stated he would make a presentation to the Bicycle/Pedestrian Advisory
Committee.
Commissioner Jelinch moved and Vice Chairman Shaikh seconded the motion to approve the
minutes of the March 4, 1999 Parks and Recreation Commission meeting as submitted. All in
favor.

Director Dowling mentioned the good turnout for the Audubon Society and the Big Bunny
Fun Run. He mentioned that our own, City Manager, Don Brown, came in second for his age
group in the Fun Run.
Commissioner Lowenthal mentioned he had received an e-mail regarding the need for a gym
to be provided for adult basketball leagues.

Director Dowling announced the purchase of the Stocklmeier property and the advantages for
the Parks and Recreation Department. He stated the Stevens Creek Trail will also benefit from
the purchase. A trail section will also be added to the General Plan.
Commissioner Lowenthal moved to adjourn at 7:43 p.m. to the regular meeting of the Parks
and Recreation Commission on Thursday, May 6, 1999, 7:00 p.m. at Cupertino City Hall,
10300 Torre Avenue, Cupertino, California 95014. Commissioner Jelinch seconded. All in
favor.
