He stated the selection for planting included Escalonia, which reaches 3 ft. in height and 2 ft. 6 in. wide to create an instant hedge. To complete the tree ring, Locust trees will be used on the side behind the hedge to accentuate the circle of trees around the play area. The remaining space will be planted with a low spreading ground cover. Linda Sumner, 22623 Woodridge Court, stated she had the opportunity to see the plans and found them acceptable. Sherry Sapudar, 22613 Woodridge Court, said she liked the design and inquired how the maintenance would be done. Director Dowling stated Public Works handles landscaping maintenance, and turf mowing is typically done on the same day for each park. Mary Trostle, 858 Brent Drive, said the planting plan was an acceptable alternative to the fence. However, at the end of the cement horseshoe she noticed a jagged edge where rocks were missing. She wanted to know if something could be added to prevent children from running down that pathway to the street. Mr. Nelson stated the hedge could be extended. Commissioner Lowenthal made a motion to approve the plan as amended verbally to extend the hedge to prevent children from running.
