P&R 11-04-99CUPERTINO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA 10300 Torte Avenue, Cupertino, CA 95014 Telephone (408) 777-3200 PRC#213 Approved MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION Thursday, November 4, 1999, 7:00 p.m. CALL TO ORDER Regular meeting of the Parks and Recreation Commission called to order at 7:03 p.m. SALUTE TO THE FLAG ROLL CALL Commissioners present: Lowenthal, Stein and Wang Commissioners absent: Jelinch REMEMBRANCE Mr. Saleem Shaikh, Vice Chairperson Staff present: Stephen DoMing, Director of Parks and Recreation Pamela Eggen, Recording Secretary ORAL COMMUNICATIONS UNFINISHED BUSINESS NEW BUSINESS 1. Director Dowling presented the status report on Kennedy Middle School pedestrian access gate on Hyarmisport Drive. He stated a committee is being formed with a strong response from Hyannisport residents. He mentioned the committee will consist of himself, a school site council president, an interested parent, two baseball representatives and one soccer representative, the principal, Chuck Corr, Recreation Supervisor Don McCarthy, and Traffic Engineer Ray Chong. The first meeting has been scheduled for November 28z or 29~. Director DoMing reported himself, Richard Lowenthal and Ciddy Wordell met with a team of consultants regarding who will be conducting the feasibility study of the Stevens Creek Trail. Much was accomplished at the meeting and they expect to have a preliminary plan as early as next August. Mr. DoMing said the Parks and Recreation Department will get involved next spring. He said since there are 3 Reaches involved, there will need to be 3 different neighborhood meetings. MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING 2. Commissioner Wang moved and Commissioner Lowenthal seconded the motion to approve the minutes of the October 7, 1999 Parks and Recreation Commission meeting as submitted. All in favor. MOTION $-0 WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS 5. Director Dowling referred to the letter from Rhonda Scherber, Friends of Stevens Creek Trail, thanking the city for their support and participation of the 6th Annual Trailblazer Race. Also, another letter of thanks from the Riverside- St. Andrews Neighbors for city assistance of a neighborhood block-party. MONTHLY REPORTS 6. Review October Recreation Programs Monthly Report Director Dowling pointed out thc success of thc Afterschool Enrichment Program. He also mentioned the Senior Center move to the Quinlan Community Center scheduled this month. Also, the Quinlan Center is implementing a new software program. 7. Community Contacts Report Commissioner Lowenthal stated he received a letter from a resident inquiring about the teen center. 8. MISCELLANEOUS Director Dowling stated there will be three open seats on the commission starting in January. ADJOURNMENT Commissioner Lowenthal moved to adjourn at 7:22 p.m. to the regular meeting of the Parks and Recreation Commission on Thursday, December 2, 1999, 7:00 p.m. at Cupertino City Hall, 10300 Tone Avenue, Cupertino, California 95014.
