P&R 01-06-00CUPERTINO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA 10300 Torre Avenue, Cupertino, CA 95014 Telephone (408) 777-3200 PRC#215 Approved MINUTES OF THE ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING OF THE PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION Thursday, January 6, 2000, 7:00 p.m. CALL TO ORDER Regular meeting of the Parks and Recreation Commission called to order at 7:06 p.m. SALUTE TO THEFLAG ROLL CALL Commissioners present: Jelinch, Stein, Wang Staff present: Stephen Dowling, Director of Parks and Recreation Pamela Eggen, Recording Secretary ORAL COMMUNICATIONS Commissioner Jelinch stated Mary Minnow of the Library Commission phoned him inquiring about the Parks and Recreation Commission involvement with the proposed library construction. Director Dowling stated the Parks and Recreation Commission involvement will occur when the turf area and parking issues are reviewed. UNFINISHED BUSINESS NEW BUSINESS 1. Commissioner Jelinch moved to elect Commissioner Wang as Chairperson for 2000. Chairperson Stein seconded the motion. MOTION PASSED: 3-0 Commissioner Wang moved to elect Commissioner Jelinch as Vice-Chairperson for 2000. Chairperson Stein seconded the motion. MOTION PASSED: 3~0 3. Director Dowling introduced Mr. John Buenz, President of the Meadows of Cupertino Homeowners Association. Mr. Buenz 22115 Dean Court, read a letter from The Meadows of Cupertino Homeowners Board of Directors regarding the former Stocklmeir property and orange grove, of which the entrance is located on Stevens Creek Boulevard. The City purchased this parcel on July 1, 1999. The Association makes up the only private property parcel adjacent to and immediately to the West of the grove. He asked that the Association Board and its representative be informed in writing and involved in the process of planning for the development of the Stocklmeir property. Commissioner Jelinch inquired as to whom else was on the committee. Director Dowling answered that the committee has not been formed, but that representation will be based upon different Homeowner Associations adjacent to the subject property, which include Bryne Avenue Homeowner Association, Scenic Avenue Homeowner Association, and the townhomes by McClellan Ranch. He stated there will be representation from City Council, Parks and Recreation, the Ad-hoc Committee, user groups, and city staff. Chairperson Stein stated notification notices will be sent regarding further meetings. MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING 4. Commissioner Jelinch moved and Commissioner Wang seconded the motion to approve the minutes of the December 9, 1999 Parks and Recreation Commission meeting as submitted. All in favor. MOTION: 3-0 WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS 5. Director Dowling referred to a letter from the City Attorney, Charles Kilian, regarding Brown Act implications of e-mail use by individual council members. MONTHLY REPORTS 6. Director Dowling mentioned the Community Center was successful. Senior Center temporary move to Quinlan 7. None. MISCELLANEOUS 8. Director Dowling referred to the Commissioner's Dinner, Friday, February 4, 2000. Director Dowling stated interviews for Parks and Recreation Commissioners were conducted with Roger Peng and Terri Cook being appointed. Director Dowling reported the meeting between the Chamber of Commerce, Christensen Drive, and staff was successful. Dara Pearlman will be the liaison from the neighborhood to serve on the committee and also to interact with Chamber staff to deal with noise and parking issues. ADJOURNMENT 9. Commissioner Jelinch moved to adjourn at 7:30 p.m. to the regular meeting of the P~rks and Recreation Commission on Thursday, February 3, 2000, 7:00 p.m. at Cupertino City Hall, 10300 Torte Avenue, Cupertino, California 95014.
