P&R 03-09-00PRC#217 Approved CUPERTINO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA 10300 Torte Avenue, Cupertino, CA 95014 Telephone (408) 777-3200 MINUTES OF THE ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING OF THE PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION March 9, 2000 CALL TO ORDER Regular meeting of the Parks and Recreation Commission called to order at 7:00 p.m. SALUTE TO THE FLAG ROLL CALL Commissioners present: Commissioner absent: Cook, Jelinch, Peng, Wang Stein Staff present: Stephen Dowling, Director of Parks and Recreation Pamela Eggen, Recording Secretary ORAL COMMUNICATIONS UNFINISHED BUSINESS NEW BUSINESS 1. Director Dowling submitted for Commission's review a plan of a new restroom facility located at Memorial Park near the rear slope of the amphitheater and playground area. Jeanne Bradford, 10120 United Place, asked how large the building would be and how many patrons would it accommodate. Director Dowling answered there would be two facilities for the men and two facilities for the women. Commissioner Wang suggested the sinks (wash basins) be located outside of the facility for convenience and crowd control. Commissioner Jelinch moved and Commissioner Cook seconded to accept the recommendation of staff regarding the plans for a new restroom facility at Memorial Park. All in favor. MOTION: 4-0 2. Director Dowling reported City Council approved Options A and B (open two gates) to install a pedestrian access at Kennedy Middle School and then review in six months. Commissioner Cook moved and Commissioner Peng seconded the motion to approve the minutes of February 3, 2000 Parks and Recreation Commission meeting as submitted. Ail in favor. MOTION: 4-0 None. Director Dowling mentioned the success of the Afterschool Enrichment Program and the good representation for the Skate Park Ad hoc Committee. Commissioner Peng reported results of McClellan Ranch Task Force regarding the community garden space waiting list. Mr. Peng will speak to supervisors to determine the list distribution of plots and report results at the Parks and Recreation Meeting of June 1, 2000. Director Dowling stated Council will give direction for the Cupertino Sports Center for either a) minimum size ADA upgrades, b) upgrades, plus expand fitness, or c) construct a new building. Commission will be informed of Council's decision at the next Parks and Recreation Meeting of April 6, 2000. Director Dowling reminded everyone of the Annual State Conference of the California Parks and Recreation Society. ADJOURNMENT 10. Commissioner Jelinch moved and Commissioner Cook seconded to adjourn at 8:50 p.m. to the regular meeting of the Parks and Recreation Commission on Thursday, April 6, 2000, 7:00 p.m., at Cupertino City Hall, 10300 Tone Avenue, Cupertino, California 95014.
