CALL TO ORDER
Chairperson Wang called the regular meeting of the Parks and Recreation Commission to order at
7:08 p.m.

NEW BUSINESS
Status of Senior Center Project - Mrs. Snow updated the Commissioners on the progress to
date of the Senior Center. As of this date, the framing and roofing are near completion and a
rough inspection should be happening soon. Mark Schatz, architect, will be attending the
August 26 Volunteer Luncheon and Mrs. Snow invited the Commission to come and meet
him. More details on the new center will be provided at that event. Mrs. Snow displayed
material boards of the new center's interiors, as well as the landscape plans. She distributed
recent photographs of the work to date. Current projected completion date is the end of
January to early February 2001. Tentative plans are in the works for an invitational dinner on
a Friday and then a dedication/ribbon cutting the next day. Commemorative Wall Tiles sales
have gone well and there are about 80 tiles left to be purchased. Mrs. Snow reported that the
Rotary Club has donated $70,000 through fundraising efforts for the new Senior Center.

Commissioner Jelinch moved and Commissioner Stein seconded the motion to approve the
minutes of July 13, 2000, Parks and Recreation Commission meeting as submitted. All in
favor. MOTION: 4-0

MONTHLY REPORTS
Review of the July Recreation Programs Monthly Report - Mrs. Snow reported that this
report was incomplete at the time of the meeting and will be included in the next meeting's
packet.
Community Contacts Report - Commissioner Jelinch reported on a field trip to the Los Gatos
sports center and that the group will meet again in two weeks to prioritize the different
features that are wanted in a sports center. Commissioner Wang brought forth the idea of
possibly doing fundraising for the sports center.
MISCELLANEOUS - NO ACTION REQUIRED
5. Legislative Update - None
Staff Oral Reports - Mrs. Snow reported on the successful Avon Breast Cancer fundraiser
that had over 3,000 participants and raised over 9 million dollars and that Parks and
Recreation provided the facility, as well as logistical support for this local event. August 12
and 13 are the dates for the Chamber of Commerce's Art & Wine Festival that will be held at
Memorial Park. The Youth/Teen division is providing six camp programs to young ranging
in age from 3-15 years, in addition to four drop-in playground programs. Mrs. Snow
informed the Commission about a 2001 California & Pacific Southwest Recreation & park
Training Conference on March 14-17, 2001, in Sacramento. Earlybird deadline for
registration is August 31, 2000.

Commissioner Stein moved and Commissioner Jelinch seconded to adjourn at 7:40 p.m. to
the regular meeting of the Parks and Recreation Commission on Thursday, September 7,
2000, 7:00 p.m., at the Cupertino City Hall. All in favor. MOTION: 4-0.
