Library Commission Minutes
Regular Meeting
September 6, 2006
1. CALL TO ORDER
At 7:05 p.m. Commissioner Mohan called the meeting to order at Cupertino City Hall,
10300 Torre Avenue, Conference Room A, Cupertino.
2. ROLL CALL
Commissioners: Janet Riddell, Kathy Stakey, Susanna Tsai, Sheila Mohan
City/County Library Staff: Melinda Cervantes, Mary-Ann Wallace
Absent: Ron Miller
3. MINUTES
Commissioner Stakey moved to approve the minutes as amended from the August 2,
2006 regular meeting. Commissioner Riddell seconded and motion passed unanimously.
4. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
Community member Chihua Wei, CEO of Organization of Special Needs Families
(OSF), introduced the Commission to his organization with a short DVD presentation.
5. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS
None.
6. CITY OF CUPERTINO LIBRARIAN'S REPORT
Mary-Ann Wallace reviewed her monthly report.
7. COUNTY LIBRARIAN'S REPORT
Melinda Cervantes reviewed the attached monthly report.
8. NEW BUSINESS
A. $120,000 Spending Plan for Extra Hours
Melinda Cervantes recommended that the Commission develop a
recommendation. County staff will bring to the October meeting cost estimates
for Sunday and Tuesday additional hours. Staff will also present the pros and
cons for using these additional hours on Monday. With this information the
Commission will recommend a plan for extra hours.
B. Coffee Society connection
Carol Atwood will update the Commission on this item at the October 18th
Commission meeting.
C. Parking on Torre Avenue
The Commission decided to reinstate the Cupertino Library Parking Task Force.
The objective of the Parking Task Force is to maximize the use of existing
parking spaces. Members of the Task Force will be Kathy Stakey and Janet
Riddell. . A report will be brought back to the Commission at the October
Commission meeting.

9. OLD BUSINESS
A. Outstanding Building Issues
The Commission is concerned over the apparent lack of progress on these
building issues. The lighting in the children's room area and the "slide" are
critical projects that need to be addressed immediately for the safety of children.
B. Friends of the Library
The next Friends book sale will be October 14th and October 15th. The Friends
contributed $1,000 to Silicon Valley Reads.
C. Library Foundation
The Foundation is finishing up their fund raising campaign and preparing for the
October celebration - "Cupertino Library Celebrates". A seven minute video is
being produced for the event. The event is scheduled for October 29th, 1 :00 p.m.-
4:00 p.m. in the Community Hall.
10. CALENDAR
The Commission reviewed and edited the calendar as prepared by Commissioner Tsai.
11. AGENDA BUILDING
Parking Task Force, Outstanding Building Issues, Jubilee.
12. REPORTS BY COMMISSIONERS
None.
13. ADJOURNMENT
The meeting was adjourned at 9:30 p.m.
