Regular Meeting Meeting
December 7, 2011
1. CALL TO ORDER
At 7:00 p.m. Chair Stevenson called the meeting to order at Cupertino City Hall,
10300 Torre Avenue, in EOC, Cupertino.
2. ROLL CALL
Commissioners: Adrian Kolb, Ann Stevenson, Susanna Tsai, Rose Grymes
City/County Library Staff Mark Fink, Liz Nunez
Absent: Ron Miller
3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Commissioner Grymes moved to approve the minutes as amended of the regular
meeting of November 2, 2011. Commissioner Kolb seconded and the motion passed
unanimously.

6. OLD BUSINESS
A. Review 2011 Work Plan
Commissioners discussed what was completed and to be reported to Council
and what would be carried over to 2012 Work Plan along with new items to be
discussed further
7. REPORTS
A. Cupertino Community Librarian Report
Mark Fink reported the statistical comparison from 2010 to 2011 library users
decreased slightly in 2011 due to new fees but circulation per user is up.
Approximately 75-80% of the users live in Cupertino and are the highest
amount of cardholders in the County. Library held 53 children's programs
and 2,300 people attended. Commissioner Tsai referred the Association of
Northern California Chinese Schools to the County Library as a further
resource for them.
B. County Librarian Report
Mark Fink reported for the County Librarian. Report attached.
Mark also added that Brian Murphy, President of DeAnza College, will be the
moderator for the Cupertino Silicon Valley Reads in March 2012.
C. Cupertino Poet Laureate
David Denny will be reporting his plan for 2012 at the January Library
Commission meeting.
D. Commissioner Reports
Commissioner Cnymes reported that she met with TICC Technology,
Information and Communications Commission. Recommended holding
events in con ,0unction with Library; Partnering with PlaneTree for digital
resources. Also discussed ideas with Nancy Howe with County
Library regarding utilizing social networking; and reverse mentoring -using
younger people to help older generation with technical gadgets.
Chair Stevenson reported about the Green initiative meeting with Marls Fink
and Commissioner Ron hiller.
Chair Stevenson also reported that she sent a thank you email to Public
Works, Roger Lee and Timm Borden, for completing the cemented
area near the book drop area of the Library.
Commissioner Tsai reported that the Association of Northern California.
Chinese Schools have a standing invitation to the County Library for

presentations to students.

No report.
NEW BUSINESS
A. PlaneTree presentation;
Candace Ford, representing the PlaneTree Health information centers. Patricia
Lorenzo from the County Library administration office was also present. The
attached report gives an overview of the services offered at the Cupertino
Library and the othr.two centers. Discussion followed.
