PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
At 7:05 p.m., Chairman KC Chandratreya called the meeting to order in Conference Room A, 10300
Tone Avenue, Cupertino, California, and led the Pledge of Allegiance.
ROLL CALL
Present: Chairman KC Chandratreya and Commissioners Jessi Kaur, Marvin Spielman, and Russell
Leong. Absent: Rajeswari Mahalingam. Staff present: Staff liaison Kimberly Smith, recording secretary
Kirsten Squarcia.

NEW BUSINESS
1. Discuss a trial version of paperless agenda packets.
The Commission unanimously agreed to switch to a paperless agenda packet. They also asked
staff to display the digital agenda on the projection screen at the next meeting as a test, and will
decide at a later date whether this will be a permanent process.
BUSINESS
1. Minutes of the regular meeting of July 26, 2011.
Leong moved and Spielman seconded to approve the minutes as presented. The motion carried
unanimously.
2. Follow-up on the Distinguished Artist and Emerging Artist award ceremony.
Commissioner Kaur reported that she presented the Distinguished Artist winner Consuelo Jimenez
with a plaque on stage at the event. Emerging Artist Steven Lin was traveling at the time and
could not attend.
3. Follow-up on Cupertino Fall Festival & Fine Arts League of Cupertino (FALC) art auction held on
September 10.
Chairman Chandratreya reported that the Emerging Artist Steven Lin was present at the event and
played guitar. Chandratreya created a PowerPoint presentation featuring the works of the 2011
Distinguished Artist Consuelo Jimenez and put it on a looped display during the event.

4. Status report on the Poet Laureate appointment.
Staff liaison Kimberly Smith reported that the Library Commission named De Anza College
professor David Denny as the first Poet Laureate of Cupertino.
5. Discuss the October 4 presentation to City Council about the activities of the Fine Arts
Commission.
City Council has requested an annual report from each commission by November. No FAC
members were present to discuss the item when it was originally scheduled on June 7, so October
4 has been set as the new date.
Commissioner Chandratreya volunteered to give the presentation to the City Council at the
October 4th meeting beginning at 6:45 PM.
6. Update on public art requirements for new development.
• PW Market: Yes (additional information coming later)
• Apple Campus 2: Yes (additional information coming later)
• Mervyn's Plaza: No (does not meet the threshold that triggers a requirement)
• TJ Maxx: No (does not meet the threshold that triggers a requirement)
Staff liaison Kimberly Smith reported that there were no new updates. Commissioner Spielman
asked what was being developed in the strip of land across the street from Target. Smith said she
would look into it and see if there was any new information available.
7. Select representatives to attend the Mayor's meeting with commission representatives. The
remaining meetings this year will be October 11.
No Commissioners were available to attend the August 9th meeting. Commissioner Mahalingam
will attend the October 11th meeting.
