The meeting was called to order at 7:02 pm
ROLL CALL:
Present: Commissioners Alan Takahashi, Mark Fantozzi, Ashish Kolli, Jill Mitsch, William

VISITORS:
James Wiant, VTA BPAC
ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
Commissioner Takahashi presented photographs of bicycle racks that are deployed in Honolulu,
HI. He suggested we have Staff contact the City of Honolulu for additional information.
Commissioner Chan reported on an oral communication from Mr. Smith indicating a desire to
have a path identified from Lincoln to Kennedy.
WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS
Mr.Wiant mentioned that California legislature is dedicating the Mary Ave. Bridge.
Commissioner Chan reported that David Stillman did not publish Safe Routes to School and
would like to have it placed on the agenda for the next meeting.
ORDERS OF THE DAY
1) Receive VTA BPAC Report: Jim Wiant
• BART Silicon Valley: Connecting Communities
• Bus Rapid Transit (BRT)
• Popular Bike Rides on Country Roads: Summary of Public Input
• Metropolitan Transportation Commission's (MTC) "One Bay Area" Grant Proposal:
Funding for Surface Transportation Program and Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality.
Eligibility requirement for funding stipulate that new development in planned
development areas does not displace affordable housing. VTA BPAC's position is
housing issues should not be tied to transportation funds.

2) July 20, 2011
The Commission approved the minutes 4-0, 1 abstention (Fantozzi).
NEW BUSINESS
3) BPC Presentation to City Council
Commissioner Chan made the Commission Presentation to the City Council. The bicycle and
pedestrian count for the Mary Ave. Bridge was presented. Commissioner Chan described future
plans for bicycle/pedestrian events in the City such as the Big Bunny Run. Commissioner Chan
suggested to the Council that bicycle education be made more visible by Council action.
4) Bicycle Education Program
Santa Clara County Sheriffs Bicycle Safety Training presentation submitted to the Commission
via email. Commissioner Mitsch suggested we have signage reminding children to wear
helmets. The signs would be placed at prominent locations such as bike racks. Commissioner
Takahashi suggested including a link about bike safety with the school newsletter. Most schools
in Cupertino have electronic newsletters. He also suggested that a CD containing the Sheriffs
presentation and other bike safety information be handed out at schools. Commissioner Kolli
suggested that a homework assignment on bike safety be developed. Commissioner Chan
suggested that school staff remind students each morning to wear helmets. No motion on any
item was put forth.
5) Bicycle Event Discussion
Commissioner Takahashi had no action to report. Commissioner Takahashi will look into family
events and will talk to Parks & Rec about participating in the Big Bunny Fun Run.
Commissioners Mitsch and Takahashi will talk to De Anza College about a community bike
event on campus.
OLD BUSINESS
8. Hotlist Review
• Stop sign at Bandley & Mariani not installed.
• McClellan @ Lincoln beacon lights in pavement removed but the actuator button is still
there. Remove or reinstall lights.
• Orange & McClellan crosswalk lights not working
• McClellan & Byrne need some type of traffic control for crosswalk safety.
