Special Meeting
August 31, 2011
1. CALL TO ORDER
At 7:00 p.m. Chair Stevenson called the meeting to order at Cupertino City Hall,
10300 Torre Avenue, in EOC, Cupertino.

Commissioners: Adrian Kolb, Ron Miller, Ann Stevenson, Susanna Tsai, Rose
Grymes
City/County Library Staff Carol Atwood, Mark Fink, Melinda Cervantes
Absent: none
3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Commissioner Miller moved to approve the minutes of the regular meeting of July 6,
2011 with minor amendments. Commissioner Kolb seconded and the motion passed
unanimously.

6. OLD BUSINESS
A. 2011 Work Plan
1. Non-user results
The Plane Tree Health Library will be moving into the old
training room at the Library and open 20 hours per week. Their focus
is to provide individualized health references. Soft opening is
September 20th with formal opening in 2012.
2. Community Events
Mark Fink noted that Fall Festival is Saturday September 10th
Bookmobile will be there and anyone is welcome to attend.
3. Discuss recommendations/ideas from TICC meeting

7. REPORTS
A. Cupertino Community Librarian Report
Mark Fink reviewed the attached monthly report.
Big projects at the Library: September 6th starts extended hours. Additional
hours are added to Monday &. Tuesday mornings. Summer reading program
concluded today. New project, "Scientific Research is Fun" it targets
CUSD grades 6, 7, & 8th and will be funded by the Library Foundation.
Last month showed a 20% increase in Cupertino resident use due to more
materials available and increased parking availability.
B. County Librarian Report
Melinda Cervantes reviewed the attached monthly report.
District-wide has seen a 25% drop in membership due to the $80 non-resident
charge, however, $255,000 was received in the first few months for the $80
