REGULAR MEETING
THURSDA Y, July 6, 2006
1. CALL TO ORDER
Chairman Peng called the regular meeting of the Parks and Recreation Commission to
order at 7 p.m. and welcomed new Commissioners Chen and Goodrich.

4. ELECTION OF VICE CHAIR
Commissioner Greenstein nominated Commissioner Bradford. The motion was seconded
by Commissioner Goodrich.
ACTION:
The motion carried unanimously to nominate Commissioner Bradford as the
new Vice Chair.
5. MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING
A. Regular meeting of March 2, 2006
ACTION:
The minutes of March 2, 2006, were accepted as written.
6. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS - None
7. NEW BUSINESS
Director Smith welcomed the new commissioners and gave an informative presentation
about the Parks and Recreation Department and Commission. The presentation included
information about the recreation staff hierarchy, programs, and facilities, and the Stevens
Creek Corridor Project. A summary of Blackberry Farm and McClellan Ranch facilities
and programs was given, followed by the Stevens Creek Corridor Project components.
Director Smith summarized the Commission as a body of residents with an objective
view and broad sensitivity and insight on issues, to provide Council recommendations.
Each commissioner received hardcopies of the City of Cupertino Parks and Recreation
Summer 2006 Schedule, and various departmental policies for the Commissioners to
familiarize themselves with.
8. MISCELLANEOUS - NO ACTION REQUIRED
Director Smith gave the Commission some background and an update on the Blue
Pheasant 11 :OOpm closure time, which is required by it's current zoning. The owner has
made past and may make further attempts to have the restaurant re-zoned from Park and
Recreation to General Commercial, to allow for business after 11 :OOpm. Evidently some
of the surrounding neighbors are in support of this and some are opposed.
Commissioner Bradford welcomed the new commissioners and provided some
background over the last five years and some of the challenges and issues that may arise
in the future.
At the request of Chairman Peng, Director Smith elaborated on the role between City
Council, Commission, and staff for those new to the Parks and Recreation Commission.
8. ADJOURNMENT
Chairman Peng adjourned the meeting at 8:50 p.m.
