TEEN 01-12-2011 (1110/ Teen Commission Regular Meeting 9 Wednesday, January 12, 2011 6:30 pm Quinlan Community Center, Conference Room C U P E RT I N O 10185 N. Stelling Road Cupertino, CA 95014 APPROVED MINUTES CALL TO ORDER Commissioner Samar called the meeting to order at 6:34 pm at the Quinlan Community Center, 10185 N. Stelling Road, Cupertino, CA. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE ROLL CALL Commissioners Present: Samar, Do, Sengupta, Sachs, Liu, Hemmady, Lim, Sundaram Tardy Commissioners: Bhagi Staff Present: Linder, Phillips MINUTES FROM PREVIOUS MEETING Regular adjourned meeting: December 8, 2010 Sundaram motioned to approve minutes. Sachs seconds. Motion passes. COMMUNICATIONS a) Oral- Diana Argabrite, De Anza Euphrat Museum, shared with commission the time extension of the Learn to Play exhibit. It was also discussed that a group of teen center participants on Craft Tuesdays might want to walk over to experience this same exhibit. b) Written NEW BUSINESS a) Giving Tree event summary/ wrap up- Commissioners were complimentary of the 2010 event. A new location was especially beneficial for a successful experience. b) April, 2011 WOW plans- Commissioners discussed how schools will be distributed and supported amongst group. Business team has prepared a draft of a letter for corporation donations. c) January 14 Teen Center event plans - Commissioners Lim, Liu, and Samar shared events plans with group. Teen Center will host an open house/ lounge night for teens to enjoy activities. d) FUHSD Job Fair – Neena Mand -Work Ability Program is looking for community support for the special education job fair to be held at Cupertino High School. Commission agreed to discuss at a future meeting how they could be of assistance. e) Discussion for possible Convention to Educate Teens on Reduced Tobacco Use in Cupertino- Parks and Recreation Director, Mark Linder talked with commission to gain interest level about hosting an anti - tobacco conference in Cupertino. Commission is egger to participate. More information to follow from staff to report to commission. f) Teen website use/ need www.cupertinoteens.com – Commissioner instructed to practice use of two websites set for teers in Cupertino. Commission will vote on necessity at a future meeting. g) New poll question OLD BUSINESS MISCELLANEOUS —NO ACTION REQUIRED ADJOURNMENT At 8:41 pm the Teen Commission adjourned to a REGULAR ADJOURNED MEETING on Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at 6:30 pm to be held in the Conference Room at Quinlan Community Center.
