Regular Meeting
May 5, 2010
1. CALL TO ORDER
At 7:00 p.m. Commissioner Tsai called the meeting to order at Cupertino City Hall,
10300 Torre Avenue, Conference Room A, Cupertino.

3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Commissioner Miller moved to approve the minutes of the regular meeting of April 7,
2010. Commissioner Kolb seconded and the motion passed unanimously.

6. REPORTS
A. Cupertino Community Librarian Report
Melinda introduced Mark Fink the new Community Librarian to Commission.
Mark Fink reviewed the attached monthly report and distributed new May
calendars for the Adult & Teen and Children's programs.
B. County Librarian Report
Melinda Cervantes reviewed the attached monthly report. Melinda advised
Commission that on May 21 all County libraries will be closed due to a staff
development day.
C. Commissioner Reports
Commissioner Kolb gave brief review of the City Council April 20 meeting
she attended. The outcome is the Mayor has invited the Commission to be put
on the Council agenda to allow more time for discussion.
Commissioner Stevenson and Melinda Cervantes each gave reports regarding
the JPA Board Meeting held 4/22/10. Commissioner Stevenson distributed the
SCC Library Commission meeting schedule for 2010.
D. Staff Reports
No further updates.
Councilman Orrin Mahoney lead discussion regarding a sub - committee
formed with Vice Mayor Gilbert Wong for the Cupertino Library's
longstanding request for increased parking.
E. Friends of the Library
Commissioner Stakey distributed flyer regarding upcoming Used Book Sale
5/22 and 5/23/10 at the Cupertino Community Hall. Commissioner Stakey
reported about the Bookmobile presentation and recommended they be invited
to present to Commission.
F. Library Foundation
No update
7. OLD BUSINESS
A. 2010 Work Program - Patron Recruit — Community Outreach
Commission discussed strategies to reach out to specific groups of people who
do not go to libraries or take out library cards.
B. Budget - Library Hours
Keep on agenda for further discussion based on upcoming City Budget
Session.
C. Library Building Issues Including Stairs, Book Drop Water Management,
Parking
Councilman Orrin Mahoney volunteered to discuss further with City staff.
8. NEW BUSINESS
A. Council Work Program — City Council Agenda
Commission discussed placement of Library Commission on Council agenda
to be ongoing.
B. Library noise
The Commission discussed overall design of library could determine quiet or
noisy areas depending on peak periods that patrons are there. Keep on agenda
for further discussion.
9. CALENDAR
City Budget Session scheduled for May 24 Commissioner Stakey planning to
attend
