LIB 06-02-2010 City of Cupertino Library Commission Regular Meeting June 2, 2010 1. CALL TO ORDER At 7:00 p.m. Commissioner Tsai called the meeting to order at Cupertino City Hall, 10300 Torre Avenue, Conference Room A, Cupertino. 2. ROLL CALL Commissioners: Adrian Kolb, Kathy Stakey, Ann Stevenson, Susanna Tsai, City /County Library Staff: Melinda Cervantes, Mark Fink, Derek Wolfgram, Carol Atwood Absent: Ron Miller (advance notice given) 3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Commissioner Kolb moved to approve the minutes of the regular meeting of May 5, 2010. Commissioner Stevenson seconded and the motion passed unanimously. 4. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS None 5. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS None 6. REPORTS A. Cupertino Community Librarian Report Mark Fink presented the attached monthly report. B. County Librarian Report Melinda Cervantes presented the attached monthly report. C. Commissioner Reports Commissioner Stakey attended City Budget session on June 1St D. Staff Reports Carol Atwood updated the Commission on the City budget session. Excess hours have been fully funded for the next 5 years. Council had numerous questions in regards to the County formula and cost of the excess hours. She suggested that the Commission solicit supporters to attend the June 9 public hearing to support the current extended hours. E. Friends of the Library Commissioner Stakey reported that library book sale was successful and all Commissioners assisted with the sale activity. F. Library Foundation The Foundation is working on the Teen Room opening for September and is considering extending the art wall. 7. OLD BUSINESS A. Patron Recruit — Community Outreach Visability — Sept 25 -56 Fall Festival B. Budget Session — Library Hours See Staff Report under 6 -D C. 2010 Work Program - Parking Carol reported that Councilmember Mahoney and Vice Mayor Wong are diligently pursuing parking options with Ralph Qualls. The subcommittee will be meeting to review the prior 5 proposals from the Commission as well as other ideas. D. Library Building Issues— Stair edging/ Book Drop Water Management Carol reported that both the City Manager and Council have asked Public Works to revisit the stair edging and book drop water management concerns. 8. NEW BUSINESS A. Council Work Program/City Council Agenda B. Library Noise 9. CAL ENDAR Library Commission meeting is canceled for July 10.
