PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
At 7:05 p.m., Chairman KC Chandratreya called the meeting to order in Conference Room A,
10300 Torre Avenue, Cupertino, California, and led the Pledge of Allegiance.
ROLL CALL
Present: Chairman KC Chandratreya and Commissioners Robert Harrison, Jessi Kaur and
Srilakshmi Sitaraman. Absent: None. Staff present: Staff Liaison Kimberly Smith.

WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS - None
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
1. Subject: Minutes of July 27, 2010.
Recommended action: Adopt the minutes as presented.
Action: Harrison moved and Kaur seconded to adopt the minutes as amended, to show that
on page 2, item 9, commissioner Sitaraman was scheduled to attend the September 14
Mayor's meeting. The motion carried unanimously.
PRESENTATIONS - None
NEW BUSINESS
2. Subject: California Arts Day
Recommended action: Review draft document and discuss any presentations to Council.
Action: Chairman Chandratreya said that he would be present to receive the proclamation.
The other commissioners agreed to attend and speak if their schedules allowed.
3. Subject: Review Commission meeting schedule for next six months and discuss bi-
monthly schedule
Recommended action: Change or cancel meetings that conflict with commissioners' travel
schedules
Action: The Commission unanimously agreed to cancel the regularly scheduled meetings
in October and December, and to move the November meeting to November 9. It was also
agreed that the Commission would return to a schedule of meeting every other month, and
additional meetings could be called as needed.
4. Subject: Status Report on Commission vacancies. Three terms end Jan 2011: Jessie Kaur,
Robert Harrison, and a vacant seat). Interviews anticipated on January 24 and 25

Action: No action was taken.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS
5. Subject: Report on the all- commissions meeting with City Council on August 17.
Recommended action: Update from commissioners on their report to the city council.
Discussion: The commissioners discussed ideas raised at the "cross- pollination" meeting
of all commissions, and decided to explore two ideas immediately. They also asked that
the January agenda include discussion of ways to promote the Distinguished Artist and
Emerging Artist awards. Commissioner Sitaraman noted that she was familiar with
program called "Reflections" sponsored by the National PTA, and it may serve as a good
model. Staff was asked to remind the recent Distinguished Artist, Pantea Karimi, of the
requirement for a written evaluation in six months.
Action: Commissioner Kaur agreed to explore the Poet Laureate concept, as well as
additional art in the Library, in collaboration with the Library Commission. Chairman
Chandratreya agreed to explore an additional Shakespeare event in collaboration with the
Parks and Recreation Commission.
6. Subject: Report Distinguished Artist award at the Shakespeare in the Park performance.
Recommended action: Update from K.C. Chandratreya and Srilakshmi Sitaraman.
Action: The Commission received the report and no action was taken.
COMMISSIONER REPORTS
7. Subject: Report from August and September Mayor's meetings.
Recommended action: Receive report
Action: K.C. Chandratreya reported on the August meeting. No commissioner was
available to attend the September meeting.
STAFF REPORTS
8. Subject: Reminder of upcoming Mayor's meeting with commission representatives, 4:30
p.m. on the second Wednesday of each month, in Conference Room A.
Recommended action: Confirm attendance at the October 13 meeting by Robert Harrison
and select representative for the November 10 meeting.
Action: Commissioner Kaur will attend the October 13 meeting, and Commissioner
Sitaraman will attend the November 10 meeting. Future meetings will depend upon the
schedule of the new mayor, who will be appointed in December.

ADJOURNMENT
At 8:45 p.m., the meeting was adjourned. The October meeting has been cancelled, and the
November meeting changed to November 9, 2010.
