1. CALL TO ORDER
Commissioner Tamara Pow called to order the regular meeting of the Cupertino Public Safety
Commission at 7:02 p.m. on Thursday, January 13, 2011 in the Cupertino City Hall, 10300 Torre
Avenue, Conference Room A, Cupertino, California 95014.

1. Discussion of Walk/Bike/Carpool (WBC) to School project ongoing (Nguyen)

Comm. Nguyen needs to check with Eaton with its grant application.
Comm. Huang reports that Faria currently does not have interest in grant.
Comm. Lee requests Capt. Neusel or a commissioner volunteer to check on payment status for
Kennedy, Garden Gate. and two Lawson grants.
2. Boltage Program at schools and installation/implementation process (Pow)

Commissioner Pow updated the commission on the latest report on the Boltagc Program.
3. Crossing Guards Program, new program and existing program (Daruwalla, Nguyen)

Comm. Nguyen communicated to Comm. Pow that he had a discussion with Councilmember
Kris Wang about the Crossing Guard program and Councilmember Wang thought the Sheriff's
Office was going to train the Crossing Guards instead of private contractors. Since there would
not be any additional activities for this commission, this item will be removed from the agenda.
4. Report on surveys to schools and survey form for October (Lec/Nguyen)

Comm Nguyen is absent so it will be reported at next commission meeting.
5. Discussion plan to work with other commissions/liaisons, subcommittees, etc. (Lee)

Commissioner Lee could not attend last month's Bicycle Pedestrian Commission meeting, but
will attend next week's meeting and continue discussion on Suggested Route to School Program.
Commissioner Pow requested Commissioner Lee to check sidewalk requirements for new
construction.
6. Discuss work program (Lee)

Commissioner Lee updated the commission on the work program.
7. Discuss how to increase Cupertino participation in Alert SCC Program (Huang)
ACTION: YES

Commissioner Huang reports that CUSD currently is not interested in AlertSCC activity; will
contact Cupertino.patch.com and Sing Tao Newspaper to publish AlertSCC article; made contact
with Ken Foot of Santa Clara County and AlertSCC sign-up rate for Cupertino has almost
doubled last quarter.
VII. REPORTS
1. Santa Clara County Fire Department
Battalion Chief Daron Pisciotta reports November's 339 unit response activities and highlights
149 emergency medical services, 92 alarms, 15 vehicle accident rescues, and two apartment fires;
as well as 42 construction inspections and 58 plan reviews. Chief Pisciotta will try to bring in
more recent data (one month delay instead of two months) in future reports, and will also provide
all three Battalion Chiefs` email addresses to be notified of future PSC's meeting when they
rotate their attendance.
2. Santa Clara County Sheriff s Office
Captain Neusel was absent due to schedule conflict with Los Altos Council meeting.
3. Commission Report
Comm. Pow : PSC report is not on next week's Council meeting, will check on the new
scheduled date; Mayor's monthly commission meeting, will be held on the second Tuesday of the
month at 4:30pm in Conference Room A, and next month's meeting is on Feb 8.
Comm. Lee : requesting a new agenda item regarding refreshing the school area street painting
(e.g. crosswalk) with volunteers co -work with Public Works. Comm. Pow will check with
Sheriffs office if using volunteers would be a public hazard before entering this request on the
agenda.
