BPC 01.19.2011 DRAFT MINUTES MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE BICYCLE PEDESTRIAN COMMISSION January 19, 2011 CUPERTINO The meeting was called to order at 7:05 pm ROLL CALL: Present: Commissioners James Wiant, Alan Takahashi, William Chan, Geoff Paulsen Absent: Commissioner A4a>:lc Fantozzi w . Staff: David Stillman VISITORS: Timm Borden, Director Public Works City of Cupertino.Vijon, Cupertino Citizen ORAL COMMUNICATIONS No Oral Communications. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS None submitted ORDERS OF THE DAY 1) VTA BPAC Update: Jim Wiant. • Santa Clara County wide bicycle access plan was discussed. (Cross County Bike Corridor Plan). • County Rural Road access for organized group rides. • Permanente Creek Trail extension, connecting Old Middlefield Way to the Google Campus. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 2) The Commission unanimously approved the December, 2010 minutes as written. NEW BUSINE 3) Bubb and 011an Road Pedestrians in Cross Walk sign. The sign is located on south side of Bubb road approaching McCellan Rd. The discussion focused on the excessive height of the sign and the location of the sign is not optimal. The commission agreed to defer to the expertise of the public works department to determine if the sign should remain, be removed, or be relocated. OLD BUSINESS 4) Bicycle Transportation Plan. The commission voted unanimously (5 -0) to adopt the Bicycle Transportation plan with the potential minor additions from public feedback. 5) Bunny Run: Commissioner Takahashi briefed the commission on e -mail dialogue with the city parks and recreation department with regard to incorporating a biking event with the Bunny Run. The parks and recreation department felt it would be logistically challenging to add a cycling event given the short time to the event and the staff needed insure the event was safe. An idea of using bicycles to pace the run as opposed to a car was discussed with perhaps city council or Bicycle and Pedestrian Commissioners riding. 6) Hot List Review: The current revision of the hotlist has reviewed, and status of the actions on the list was updated from public works. 7) Bicycle Friendly Community Application: The plan is ready for submittal with minor edits with regard to bicycle parking. The application is due February 18 2011, the application is on target to be submitted on time. 8) Suggested Routes to School Map: The commission discussed the maps that were marked up by the commission and provided to public works. Public works now plans to review the maps with the CUSD schools in Cupertino to insure that the schools agree with the recommended routes to school. Specific mention of Regnart school with regard to potentially adding cross walks to support safer walking to this school.
