RECONIMIIQDING CITY C�OUNCIL ADOPTION OF THE �ZSCAPE L�ANDSCAPING
AND IRRIGATION DESIGN/MAINTEI�tANCE GUIDELIl�TFS

WHIItEAS, the City Council, in March, 1989, direct the preparation of
water conserving landscape guidelines to be adopted as official city
policy, and applied to new and substantially redeveloped construction and;

WHEfZEAS, the City desires to affect long term savings of irrigation
water demand beyond the present drought conditions affectirig California
and;
WHEIZE�.S, the Planning Con�nission believes that water conserv�ation
objectives can be met while still maintaining Cupertino's traditionally
' high quality of landscape design and maintenance:

ATTACHED �I'O, IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE FOLLOWING FII�IDINGS :
1) The Xeriscape program will effect significant reduction in long term
demand for decorative landscape irrigation water supplies through
careful selection and grouping of plant material and management of
watering system equipment.
( 2) The program of professional ce.rtification of compliance with the
Guidelines, along with water use audits under prescribed
circumstances, will ensure effective implementation of the Xeriscape
� Guidelines.
