MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE PLANNING
COI�IISSION HELD DECEMBER 9, 1968 IN THE COUNCIL CHAMBERS
CITY HALL, CUFERTINO� CALIFORNIA
The meeting was called to order at 8�00 _�.M. by Chairman Frolich, who call to order
subsequently led the assemblage in the flag salute. flag salute
Commissioners present: Buthenuth, Irwin, Puetz, Frolich. Absent;
Commissioner Hirshon. Also present� Senior Planner Laurin� Assistant roll call
Planner Eng� City Attorney Anderson; Director of Public Works Finney�
City Engineer Boyd� Recording Secretary Betty Dorris.
Commissioner Puetz asked for a correction of the minutes of the previou
meeting held on November 25, 1968. Paragraph 5 on page 4 of these min- previous min-
utes should be deleted as this was a minute order. utes amended
It was moved by Commissioner Irwin that the minutes of the previous minutes
meeting of November 25, 1968 be approved as corrected. approved
Motion was seconded by Commissioner Puetz and passed unanimously.
The Director of Public Works, Mr. Frank Finney, informed the commission �
that he had received a nhone call from a representative of the Sears
Roebuck Company sayi:�� that they would be unable to have someone in at-
tendance at this meeting and asking that the hearing of Applica-
tion 16-U-68 be postponed to the next regular meeting of the Planning
Commission.
Commissioner Buthenuth moved to postpone hearing of Application 16-U-68
Sears Roebuck and Company, to the next regular meeting of this Commis-
sion which would be held on January 13, 1969. 16-U-68

Motion was seconded by Commissioner Puetz and passed unanimously.
Commissioner Irwin moved, Commissioner Puetz seconded and it was passed
unanimously to continue the hearing of Ordinance 220 (k) until the next ordinance
regular meeting of this Commission to be held on January 13, 1969. 220 (k) con-

Senior Planner Laurin advised the Commissioners of a written communica-
tion received from the County Planning Department concerning a request-
ed apartment zoning for an apartment project to be constructed on
McClellan Road opposite DeAnza Col1E�;e. Considerable discussion ensued
Commissioner Puetz moved that the County Planning Departm2nt should be written
advised of the desirability of mai��� Rl zoning in this area. communication

Chairman Frolich reminded the assemblage that Ite_n v'II-C, Sears Roebuck
and Company Application 16-U�-68 for Use Permit and Item VIII�-B, Ordi-
nance 220 (k) are continued to the next regular meeting of the Planning
Commission on January 13, 1969.

24-Z-68 A. APOSTOLIC PENTECOSTAL TEMPLE, ARTHUR LIND, AND

Mr. Walter Ainsworth of Creston Realty� representing his three clients
at this hearing, presented this application. Mr. Ain�worth stated
applicant's that the applicants are desirous o:: having this property annexed into
presentation the City of Cupertino as a commercial zoning. He mentioned that it
is expected that the entire square block at this locatior� will ulti-
mately become commercial. -he con�regati:�.: �� the Aposto??� Pentecostal
congregation is presently looking for a new location f�r their church
and the present church bui-�i��rr, will become a warehouse. During the dis-
cussion Mr. Ainsworth menti:;���ed several of the businesses to be in this
location. It was pointed out that more liberal zoning might make the
area more desirable.
Senior Planner Laurin mentioned that a study of this area had been made
reference to by the County Planning Department in cooperation with Cupertino's Plan-
general pla ning Department. A revised General Plan was recommended by the Planning
Commissions of the County and the City but has not been adopted by the
Council.
Commissioner Buthenuth moved that we continue this application and also
point out to the City Council that the Commission had recommended a new
General Plan for this area. The Commission would like to determine if
the City Council desires to keep the old General Plan, or what type of
24-Z-68 plan would meet with their approval and at the same time point out that
continued we have an application on file.

At this point Chairman Frolich mentioned that he would like to see the
proposed General Plan implemented and used as a guideline.
Commissioner Puetz seconded the motion made by Commissioner Buthenuth
and it was passed unanimously to continue this application.
Application 24-Z-68, Apostolic Pentecostal Temple, Arthur Lind, and
Bill Mitchell, will then aopear on the Planning Commission agenda for
the meeting of January 13, 1969.

proximately 2.665 acres located east side
of Bubb Road, South of Stevens Cree'-� D^��le-
vard. First Hearing.
Mr. Ralph Ramona of Town and Country Developers, West Valley Indus-
trial Park presented this application. Mr. Ramona summarized the
situation, mentioning some of the improvements that had already been
made on the property and mentioning a few of the businesses to be
located there.
S�nior Planner Laurin recommended this application as having no pro-
blems whatsoever. Public Works Director Finney informed the Plannin
Commission that all improvements have been met and that there were n
objections from his department.

missioner Puetz seconded the motion.

It was moved by Commissioner Buthenuth that the public hearings be
closed. Motion was secor,ded by Commissioner Irwin and passed unanim usly.

Commissioner Buthenuth recommended and moved approval of Ordinance 220
(j), fourth draft, with the following amendments:
