BPC 04-21-10 // CUPERTINO MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE BICYCLE PEDESTRIAN COMMISSION April 21, 2010 The meeting was called to order at 7:01 p.m. ROLL CALL: Present: Chan, Fantozzi, Paulsen, Takahashi, Wiant Absent: None Staff: Stillman, Absent as Planned VISITORS: NONE ORAL COMMUNICATIONS: NONE WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS Written communication from Joe Walton, regarding the Bike to Work Day, was postponed until Old Business. ORDERS OF THE DAY 1. Receive VTA BPAC Update (Wiant) The special meeting of April 7 featured Gary Richards, Mr. Roadshow ( www .mercurynews.com /mrroadshow), who discussed his daily article: its history and important public issues throughout his 25 years as Mr. Roadshow. Two current public issues is that San Mateo country has enabled traffic light cameras that has caused many motorists to receive citations for traffic -stop violations, and caused a backlash of comments regarding the similar violations of bicyclists without citation. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 2. March 17, 2010 The Commission approved the 17 March 2010 minutes as written with an attachment of the Hot List. NEW BUSINESS 3. Over/Under Ride To celebrate the many non - motorized Across Barrier Connections (ABCs) opened in Santa Clara County over the last few years, the County's Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (a.k.a. VTA BPAC, http: // www. vta. org /schedules/bikeways bpac.html ) and SVBC are sponsoring the second annual self - guided "Over and Under Tour" on Saturday May 15 as part of the -l- Mattson Technology San Jose ViaVelo (see http: / /bikesiliconvalley.org /out2010 for additional information and maps). The tour map (http: / /bikesiliconvalley.org /files /out2010flyer.pdf) includes a slight detour from Homestead to the midpoint of the Mary Ave. Footbridge, a turn around, and exit back to Homestead for the tour continuation. Not action was requested or required. OLD BUSINESS 4. Bike to Work Day Plans for a successful Quinlan Energizer Station are well underway: • Joe Walton has agreed to prepare request letters to Hobee's and the Roasted Coffee Bean for the Chairman's signature as well as preparing sign -in and route information for those riders wishing to contribute such information. • Public Works will provide two tables and some chairs, barriers to the Stelling Rd. entrance to Quinlan, and trip tally- takers. • Commissioner Wiant presented to the Commissioners an article that has been provided and agreed for publication by the Cupertino Scene and Cupertino Courier, and will provide a covered pavilion for use at the Quinlan Energizer Station. • All Commissioners plan to participate: Commissioner Chan will assist with tear down at 9:00 AM, others, from 6:00 AM onward.
