Regular Meeting
March 3, 2010
1. CALL TO ORDER
At 7:OOp.m. Commissioner Tsai called the meeting to order at Cupertino City Hall,
10300 Torre Avenue, EOC Conference Room, Cupertino.
2. ROLL CALL

City /County Library Staff: Melinda Cervantes, Rosanne Macek, Carol Atwood, Liz

Absent: None
3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Commissioner Stevenson moved to approve the minutes of the regular meeting of
February 3, 2010. Commissioner Kolb seconded and the motion passed unanimously.

5. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS
None
6. REPORTS
A. Cupertino Community Librarian Report
Rosanne Macek reviewed the attached monthly report and distributed flyers
for Silicon Valley Reads in Cupertino March 20 event to promote, "In
Defense of Food" by Michael Pollan.
Rosanne Macek reported that library patrons have commented that limited
time parking area is not being honored particularly on weekends. Carol
Atwood will advise City's Code Enforcement unit of this issue.
B. County Librarian Report
Melinda Cervantes reviewed the attached monthly report.
The Commission and staff discussed the web -based survey that will be
available to library users to complete before the JPA Board meeting April 22.
C. Commissioner Reports
Commissioner Miller gave brief report regarding the CALTAC training held
in Berkeley.
Commissioner Stakey gave brief report regarding the County library
presentation held at Cupertino's Community Hall.
The Commission discussed Councilmember Orin Mahoney's interest and
support in the library and its issues. The Commission discussed attending the
March 16 Council meeting and City budget study sessions in May.
Commissioner Tsai distributed the Mayor's meeting notes from February.

D. Staff Reports
Carol Atwood introduced Liz Nunez as new the Recording Secretary and her
Administrative Services Assistant.
Carol Atwood passed around budget narratives for commissioners to review
and return to her. Carol will adv:.se commissioners of dates for City Budget
sessions to be held in May.
Carol Atwood updated commissioners regarding some of the library issues.
Public Works is expected to complete the stair edging, slide and Statue water
puddling shortly. Parking issues have been brought up in conjunction with
Council 2010 goals. Carol is not getting a response on the book drop situation
and will follow -up again with Public Works.
E. Friends of the Library
Commissioner Stakey reported that new officers were voted in.
Books sales at libraries have been very successful.
F. Library Foundation
County Librarian Macek informed committee that longtime supporters, Pat
and Barbara Roers, resigned frorl the Foundation. They will be recognized
at the March 16` Council Meeting.
7. OLD BUSINESS
A. 2010 Work Plan
Commissioner Miller proposed action to revise text in item #6 to read
Community Involvement, and add text "to participate in community events
and activities to be more involved with community and learn more about their
library needs and interest." And revise Item #7 text to read Continuing
Education. Commissioner Miller motioned to approve revision and the
motion passed unanimously
B. Library Issues: Stair edging, Slide, Book Drop water management, and Statue
water puddling
8. NEW BUSINESS
A. Outreach Meeting
The Commission discussed further brain storming for areas of community
involvement.
9. CALENDAR
The Commission agreed to attend the next City Council meeting on March 16
