BICYCLE PE',DESTRIAN COMMISSION
October 21, 2009

The meeting was called to order at 7:01 pm

VISITORS:
Joe Walton -VTA Bicycle Commission
Ann Ng -Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition
ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
Ann Ng reported that the new bike racks at Blackberry Farm were not very suitable for
supporting bikes. Ann complained at a recent Parks and Recreation Committee meeting about
the racks and Parks will take the complaint under advisement and look to modify the racks. BPC
gave some of the VTA racks to Blackberry. Park:. and Rec are looking to keep the rack rustic
looking to blend in with the surroundings.
Ann Ng reported that the City Council will head a petition to provide a dedicated access to
Blackberry Farm from Scenic Circle at the November 30 City Council meeting.
WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS
Commissioner Wiant presented a letter from Terry Greene to Adrian Kolb in response to Kolb's
interest in why the fence along Scenic Circle was reinstalled as part of the Blackberry Farm
upgrades. Commissioner Paulsen moved to place the issue of access from Scenic Circle to
Blackberry Farm on the November BPC agenda for further discussion. Commissioner Fantozzi
seconded the motion. Motion carries.
Commissioner Paulsen reported on an email received from Joe Walton about the position that
will be open at VTA BPAC when Joe Walton retires from the VTA committee.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The Commission approved the September 16, 2009 minutes as written.
OLD BUSINESS
Bicycle Transportation Plan
Look at the recommended bikeway networks as part of a hot list with priorities. Commissioner
Paulsen moved to have Commissioner Wiant complete the editing of the plan and use his
judgment to assign priorities for review by the Commission for approval in order to facilitate the
process by next meeting. Commissioner Fantozzi seconded. Motion carves.
Bicycle Education Status
Commissioner Wiant reported that he visited all PTA's except Miller. Instructors hired for the
classes. First day of class is evening of Nov. 12t" and the afternoon of the 14tH
Hot List
Commissioner Wiant moved to postpone until nea:t meeting. Commissioner Paulsen seconded.
Motion carries.
NEW BUSINESS
VTA BPAC
Commissioner Wiant presented a memo from staff about Joe Walton's term with the VTA BPAC
is about to expire and a replacement is needed. V'TA BPAC meetings are monthly on the 2nd
Wednesday of the month at the VTA headquarter;. Joe Walton gave a brief explanation of the
duties and purpose of the BPAC. Commissioner Fantozzi moved to select Commissioner
Paulsen as our representative with Commissioner Wait as backup. Commissioner Wiant
seconded. Motion carries.
Bike or Walk to School
Commissioner Takahashi emailed to the Commis~cion the results of the bike/walk to school
program Commissioner Wiant motioned to have Commissioner Takahashi attend the Tri
Commission meeting and continue with the Bike ~~nd Walk to School program. Commissioner
Paulsen seconded. Motion carries.
