FAC 06-23-09CUPERTINO PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE APPROVED MINUTES FINE ARTS COMMISSION Regular Meeting Tuesday, June 23, 2009 At 7:00 p.m., Chairman Robert Harrison called the meeting to order in Conference Room A, 10300 Torre Avenue, Cupertino, California. ROLL CALL Present: Chairman Robert Harrison and Commissioners KC Chandratreya, John Fiegel, Absent: Christine Hackworth, and Jessi Kaur. Staff present: None. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS -None WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS Commissioner Chandratreya will present the distinguished Artist of the Year Award at the Shakespeare in the Park Festival on August 9, 2009. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Minutes of May 12, 2009. Fiegel moved and Chandratreya seconded to~ approve the minutes of May 12 as presented. PRESENTATIONS NEW BUSINESS 2. Selection of Distinguished Artist and Emerging Artist of the Year (application materials were distributed on DVDs). The commissioners reviewed application m~iterials submitted by Zoe Concha and Tamar Assaf, and Christina Jung for the Emerging .Artist Award, and Bernard Renot Vishal Ramani, and Iona Ezaki for the Distinguishe-d Artist Award. Chandratreya moved and Harrison seconded. to select Christina Jung as the Emerging Artist of the Year and Iona Ezaki as the Distinguished Artist of the Year. The motion carried unanimously. The commissioners selected Ms. Ezaki based on merit and significant contributions in the arts that have benefited the city of Cupertino, and they selected Ms. Jung based on her meritorious artistic talent. The commissioners noted that her mature craftsmanship and attention to detail were very impressive. 3. 2008 grant evaluation from Euphrat Museum of Art The Commissioners received the report and discussed ways to maximize the $4000 donated to the museum. No specific conclusions were reached. 4. 2008 grant evaluation and 2009 grant reque:;t from Fine Arts League of Cupertino (FALC) June 23, 2009 Fine Arts Commission Page 2 The Commissioners received the report. Harrison moved and Chandratreya_seconded to award a grant in the amount of $500 to the Fine Arts League of Cupertino. The motion carried unanimously.
