1. CALL TO ORDER
Chairperson Lee called the meeting to order at 7:01 p.m. in the Community Hall
Council Chamber, 10350 Torre Avenue:, Cupertino, CA.

MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETIrTGS
A. Regular meeting of Apri12, 2009
Action: Commissioner Bradford made a motion to approve the
minutes. Commissioner Greenstein seconded the motion. The motion
carried unanimously.

ORAL COMMUNICATIONS -None.
6. PRESENTATION
A. Parks and Recreation Program update by Linda Yelavich, Recreation
Coordinator from the Senior Center.
Senior Supervisor Julia Lamy introduced Linda Yelavich who gave a
presentation on the volunteer progr<<m at the Senior Center. Linda said that
they currently have 188 active volwrteers with 12,000 annual hours of
volunteer service. Their goal is to recruit 25 new volunteers in 2009, by
implementing a new marketing plan, and to date they have already recruited
19 new volunteers.
7. OLD BUSINESS
A. Update on KaBoom Project and Adopt-A-Park Program
Director Linder gave a brief update and said the new playground area at
Blackberry Farm will be named the "Captain Stephens Playground at
Blackberry Farm". The KaBoom organization and the Cupertino community
will come together to build this pla}ground on June 6 at 8:00 a.m. The
preparation day will be on June 4 acid that the KaBoom organizers will get the
playground site ready. Currently, tl-ere are 130 volunteers who have signed
up to work on the June 6 Build Day, and the goal is to have 200 volunteers.
Director Linder encouraged the community to please sign up on the City's
website, www.cupertino.org to help build the playground.
Director Linder said that the initial rite for the Adopt-A-Park site will be the
Stevens Creek Corridor Trail and B lackberry Farm Park. Commissioner
Greenstein and Director Linder are :meeting with a representative from the
Monta Vista High School Interact group, who has volunteered to help with
this project.
B. Update on current and prospective I~artnerships.
Director Linder said that the Parks rind Recreation Department is currently
involved in the following partnerships:
• Rotary -Captain Stephens Playground at Blackberry Farm
• De Anza College - Leader~;hip and Learning Partnership, Senior
Center programming
• Cupertino Union School District -Athletic Fields, Afterschool
programs, lunch-time programming
• Fremont Union High School District -Cupertino High School
swimming pool, gym July ~Et" Fireworks, Summer Enrichment
Program, Senior Center programming
• 4H -McClellan Ranch Parkk
• Audubon Society -McClellan Ranch Park
• Friends of Stevens Creek Trail -McClellan Ranch Park
• Cupertino Library
• De Anza Optimists Club - ~4t" of July and Breakfast with Santa
• Cupertino Historical Society
• Cupertino Kiwanis -Senior Center Recognition Luncheon
Commissioner Greenstein said that the Commission should plan to discuss
connecting and nurturing existing p~~rtnerships at the work plan meeting and
also, look into possibly adding mores partnerships to the 2009/2010 work plan.
Commissioner Paul suggested also <liscussing a possible event to bring
together and celebrate the partnerships. Director Linder said the Commission
should discuss this at the work plan meeting.

8. NEW BUSINESS
A. Discuss July date for Commission and work plan meeting
Action: Commissioner Bradford made a motion to cancel the July 2,
2009 regular meeting and combine it with the 2009/2010 Commission
work plan meeting and move the meeting to July 23, 2009.
Commissioner Greenstein sec~~nded the motion. The motion carried
unanimously.
9. MISCELLANEOUS - NO ACTION REQUIRED
A. Staff oral reports
Director Linder said that he enjoyed the Mary Avenue Bridge Opening
and it was good to see that the trail was extended. Also, he said that he
and Councilmember Sandoval a.re representing Cupertino, on a four-city
task force with Sunnyvale, Mountain View, Los Altos to extend the
Stevens Creek Trail through Sunnyvale. The first meeting is on May 11
Commissioner Greenstein asked Director Linder if the two landings on
each side of the bridge that look: like parks, will fall under the purview of
the Parks and Recreation Commission. Director Linder said it is
considered part of the trail but fie will clarify and report back to the
Commission.
Chairperson Lee attended the M[ayor's meeting in April and reported that
May 15, 16 and 17 will be Bike-to-Work days and encouraged
residents/commuters to be environmentally conscious and consider riding
bikes to work if possible.
9. ADJOURNMENT -Chairperson Lee adjourned the meeting at 8:18 p.m.
