MINUTES OF T>H[E REGULAR MEETING OF THE
BICYCLE PEDESTRIAN COMMISSION
.March 18, 2009
CUPERTINO
The meeting was called to order at 7:01 p.m.
ROLL CALL
Present: Armstrong, Fantozzi, Paulsen, Takahashi, Wiant
Absent: None
Staff: David Stillman, Senior Civil Engineer, Hannah Chow, Associate Civil Engineer
ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
Commissioner Wiant was invited to speak at Lincoln Elementary on the topic of bike safety for several
classes. Commissioner Wiant also noted witnessing a bike accident on Steven Creek near the Blue
Pheasant on March 16th in the early a.m.
Commissioner Paulsen met with individuals from. the Teen Commission. It is their plan to have a
bike/walk to school day on April 22, 2009 (Earth Day) and was seeking inputs from Commissioner
Paulsen. They would like the BPC commission to Help in contacting schools.
WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS
A letter was received from Patricia Parseghian dated January 26, 2009. In this letter, Ms Parseghian
noted a potentially hazardous traffic pattern at Stelling Rd and Hazelbrook Drive. Commissioner
Paulsen took the action to respond to the letter informing Ms. Parseghian that it was received and will be
reviewed. Also worth noting was the current potential plan to install protected left turn lanes at Stelling
and Greenleaf by Staff Civil Engineer Stillman.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
1. The Commission approved the January 21, 2009 minutes as submitted.
OLD BUSINESS
2. Bicycle Transportation Plan Update
The Commission took the action to review chapter 3 of the proposed Transportation plan update.
The Executive Summary and both Chapters one and four of the Cupertino Bicycle Transportation
Plan are complete. Chapter two requires corrections for some bike route and notes. Chapter five,
which involves "bicycle promotion" and is ov~nied by Commissioners Walton and Wiant, may have
promotional aspects the VTA Bicycle Technical Guidelines integrated into it. Commissioners
Walton and Wiant to further review Chapter 5. The goal is to have a complete draft ready for review
at the April meeting.
The plan will be reviewed in April with a May c;ompletion expected.
