Last year the Teen Commission decided
to take action to combat Cupertino's traffic
congestion issues around schools.
•A plan to work on promoting a walk/ bike/
carpool to school event was established in
September 2008.
*In January 2009 the Public Safety
Commission generously lent its support and
effort into the project.
®Wednesday, February 25, 2009 a Joint
Special Meeting took place for both
commissions to begin a working plan.

® Wednesday, April 22 has been selected for the
first Walk -2 -School event.
Being a Wednesday morning, this is usually the
most congested traffic time around Cupertino (esp.
tri -school area).
Teen Commissioners will be promoting at their
respective school sites in various ways in hopes of
building a strong turn out.
Day -of details such as incentives and promotion
are currently under review
® The Public Safety Commission has assumed the
task of coordinating with schools on carpool -
related issues.
INTO THE FUTURE...
® We plan to make Walk -2 -School a recurring
event for students in Cupertino to partake in.
® Details having to do with students attaining
community service hours while helping are
currently being considered.
Walking/ biking promotes good habits, health,
and a "Green" community that Cupertino
wishes to be proud of.
• Find a relationship with schools to add a
carpooling element to their school address
books to promote friendly use of neighbors
and carpool options.
