Regular Meeting
February 4., 2009
1. CALL TO ORDER
At 7:00 p.m. Commissioner Miller called the meeting to order at Cupertino City Hall,
10300 Torre Avenue, Conference Room 101), Cupertino.
2. ROLL CALL & INTRODUCTION OF r1EW MEMBERS
Commissioners: Adrian Kolb, Ron Miller, Kathy Stakey, Ann Stevenson, Susanna Tsai,
City/County Library Staff: Melinda Cervantes, Pamela Moore
Commissioner Miller recommended an introduction of individuals around the table.
3. ELECTION OF OFFICERS
Commissioner Miller opened the floor for nominations of Chairperson. Commissioner
Tsai nominated Commissioner Miller. Commissioner Stakey seconded and motion to
elect Miller as Chairperson passed unanimously.
Commissioner Miller opened the floor for nominations of Vice Chair. Commissioner
Stakey nominated Commissioner Tsai. Commissioner Kolb seconded and motion to elect
Tsai as Vice Chair passed unanimously.
Commissioner Stakey nominated Commissioner Stevenson as Secretary. Commissioner
Tsai seconded and motion to elect Stevenson as Secretary passed unanimously.
3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Commissioner Stakey moved to approve th~~ minutes of the regular meeting of January 7,
2009. Commissioner Tsai seconded and motion passed unanimously.
4. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
None.
5. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS
None.
6. CUPERTINO COMMUNITY LIBRARIAN'S REPORT
Acting Community Librarian Pamela Mooec; reviewed the attached monthly report.
7. COUNTY LIBRARIAN'S REPORT
Melinda Cervantes reviewed the attached monthly report.
8. STAFF REPORTS
The Commission reviewed the attached con~espondence from Carol Atwood.

9. OTHER REPORTS
A. Commissioners
Commissioner Miller noted that he <<ttended the Milpitas Library grand opening.
Councilmember Mark Santoro arrived at 7:20 p.m. and presented the highlights of
a special council meeting regarding ~;ommissions and their functions which was
held on February 3.
10. OLD BUSINESS
A. Torre Avenue Traffic Update
Commissioner Stakey noted that permanent signage had been installed at both
"ends" of the crosswalk.
B. Aquarium Maintenance for Future Y-ears
It was noted that the maintenance has been paid through October 2009 in the
amount of $1,350 per month or $16,:200 per year.
C. 2009 Work Plan Update and Discus:cion
The Commission discussed a draft v~~ork plan for 2009.
D. Friends of the Library
It was noted that the Friends would. be donating $25,000 toward the redesign of
the student area within the Cupertino Library.
It was also noted that a new slate of officers would be voted on for the 2009/10
fiscal year during the March meeting;.
E. Library Foundation
It was noted that there was no January meeting.
11. NEW BUSINESS
A. Commissioner Work Assignments
The Commission reviewed the attached work plan.
12. CALENDAR
Commissioner Stevenson was assigned to maintain the calendar.
