Program Highlights
Two programs were offered at the Cupertino Library to celebrate the Moon Festival.
Adult Services Librazians presented a Guzheng (Chinese flute) performance on the 24tH
86 people came and enjoyed a piece of moon cake and hot tea afterwazds. Children's
Librarian Vicky Sheu told folktales surroundir.~g the Moon Festival to 30 children and 28
adults on the 1 1 cn. Each audience also got to t~uste a small piece of the moon cake.
Children's Librarians put together a "Back to School Special" this year. Bike Safety
workshop, a two session safety awareness training was offered on the 18`n and 20tH,
including an actual road trip. Members from tTze Cupertino Bike Safety Commission
conducted this workshop. "Library 1 O 1 " an introduction to Library resources for K-8
children and their parents was offered on the 15'n. 17 children and 13 adults attended this
workshop. "Library 102" a continuation of the; "Librazy 1 O1" was offered on the 17tH and
we had 5 children and 5 adults attended.
Our Teen Librarian offered a workshop on Library Resources for Teens. 8 teens and
their parents came and they had ahands-on experience seazching through our catalog and
looking at our online databases in our Training Room on the second floor.
Book Drop Project Update
We aze still waiting for the arrival/installation of our 4cn book return (2na one on the
outside of the Library.) We've been experiencing some minor problems off and on with
these machines, most often with the one from outside the Library. The patrons took no
time to adjust to our 3 automated returns (2 inside the Library, 1 currently available from
outside of the Librazy.)
We've had visitors from San Bruno Public Library and Sunnyvale Public Library visiting
to see how our Automatic Material Handling System (AMHS) works. It is always a good
process to prepare for these visits which remind us to evaluate the data and the workroom
job assignments and workflow.
Personnel
We had just welcomed our new Teen Librari<n, Lisa Pirlot last month. Unfortunately,
Sazatoga Library has a full time Teen Librazi~in position open and Lisa has been offered
that position. She will leave Cupertino as of ~~ctober 20th. We will be back in
recruitment. Cupertino Librazy needs a full time Teen Librarian position, not only
because it helps the staff retention, our work ~avith many teens who visit our libraries also
presents real need fora 40 hours professional librarian's attention each week.
The exciting news is Linh Relfschneider will be our new Library Circulation Supervisor
starting on November 17th. She is currently the Circulation Supervisor at San Bruno
Public Library. Linh started her library cazee:r at the Campbell Library of the County
Library system. She is familiaz with the Comity Library operation. In addition, she was
the head of San Bruno Public Library circulation while that library system had their new
online system, and developed several new service model, including a joint service desk
with librarians and circulation staff. Linh had- strong circulation background and
experience in staff training. I know she will be a great supervisor and leader for our
circulation and customer service in Cupertino Library.
