WOULD THE CITY ALLOW 25% FOOD TRUCKS???
I don’t think we want that either.
I don’t have time to pull up agreements from other markets – I am buddies with 2 large
operators of farmers’ markets.
Here is the Campbell Market RFQ:
https://www.campbellca.gov/DocumentCenter/View/22018/Downtown-Campbell-Farmers-
Market-RFQ?bidId=108
I know that Mountain View and West Valley College and Los Gatos DO NOT HAVE
COMMERCIAL VENDORS!!!
But I don’t have time to pull up the documents . . . PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE
POSTPONE!!!

packet
Dear Planning Commission,
I am in a mad rush.
I beg you to put the definition of a Farmers’ Market on hold and revisit this another time.
The current definition would allow 25% of the merchants to be: VERIZON, WINDOW
REPLACEMENT COMPANIES, INSURANCE COMPANIES, USED CLOTHING etc…
That is INAPPROPRIATE – yes, I am screaming.
PLEASE DO NOT DO THIS!!!
Another area where the definition is lacking is whether any sort of entertainment is allowed.
Here is the proposed definition:
“Farmers’ Market” means an outdoor market open to the public, in which (a) at least 75
percent of the products sold are Farm Products or Value-added Farm Products and (b)
at least 75 percent of the vendors regularly participating during the market’s hours of
operation are Producers, or family members or employees of Producers.
1. “Farm Products” means fruits, vegetables, mushrooms, herbs, nuts, shell eggs, honey
or other bee products, flowers, nursery stock, livestock food products (including meat,
milk, cheese and other dairy products), and fish.
2. “Producer” means a person or entity that raises or produces Farm Products on land
that the person or entity farms and owns, rents, or leases.
3. “Value-added Farm Product,” means any product processed by a Producer from a
Farm Product, such as baked goods, jams, and jellies.
California Certified Farmers’ Markets in the State of California were started by the dept. of Ag
primarily in order to keep small family farmers in business.
I would hope that the only Farmers’ Markets allowed in the City would be California Certified
Farmers’ Markets.
Here is the definition:
https://www.cdfa.ca.gov/is/i_&_c/cfm.html
The types of food at a farmers’ market are those that require either
A permit from the dept of AG (called famers) or a permit from the County dept of
Environmental Health (called vendors)
This covers people who make coffee or chick on a spit. I do like the idea of people who are
employed (or family) vendor.
I think that people selling crafts who are employed or family of items made in the State of
California would be okay too.
The present definition is terribly flawed.
If you go to Mountain View or West Valley College – you will not see commercial vendors.
Thanks,
Rhoda Fry
