ROLL CALL Present: Biswari, Chen, Cheung, Garg, Gupta, Mukherjee, Shah. Absent: Hu, Kumar. Staff: Sonya Lee, Robert Kaufman, Alex Greer, Ursula Syrova. CEREMONIAL MATTERS AND PRESENTATIONS 1. Subject: Receive a Presentation on GenConnect, an Intergenerational Program on March 18. Recommended Action: Receive a presentation on GenConnect, an Intergenerational Program from Recreation Manager, Alex Greer. The event is similar to last year’s intergenerational event. The name has been changed to GenConnect. Event is being held on a non-school day for most high schools. Attending the event will qualify for volunteer hours. Commissioner Questions: • Will any of the activities be the same as last year? o Some of the games, but structured activities will be different. • How many students did we have last year? o 30 seniors, 15-20 teens APPROVAL OF MINUTES 2. Subject: Approval of Minutes – January 10, 2024 Recommended Action: Review and approve the minutes from the Teen Commission meeting on January 10, 2024. 5 Cupertino Teen Commission Minutes February 14, 2024 Commissioner Chen moved to approve the January meeting minutes and Commissioner Biswari seconded the motion. The commission voted 7-0 to approve the minutes. WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS No written communications. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS No oral communications. OLD BUSINESS No old business. NEW BUSINESS 3. Subject: Receive a Presentation on Sustainability and Environmental Programs in Cupertino. Recommended Action: Receive a presentation on Sustainability and Environmental Programs in Cupertino from Environmental Programs and Sustainability Manager, Ursula Syrova. Commissioner Questions: • Question about reusable Boba cups. Are there options for warm cups for Boba? o Maybe • Will the Boba shops accept different size Boba cups? o That is a good question for the vendors. • Who is the City working with for adding EV charging stations? o Currently working with ChargePoint. The City owns the charging stations. Trying to figure out how to fund the new chargers. • Do you work with school groups to get information out? o Yes, they do work with schools. Schools are not City, so they do not need to abide by City ordinances. City is trying to educate the schools. 4. Subject: Update on Teen Resource Fair Recommended Action: Receive an update on the Teen Resource Fair from Recreation Coordinator, Robert Kaufman. 6 Cupertino Teen Commission Minutes February 14, 2024 Teen Resource Fair has formalized a partnership with the Fremont Union High School District Intradistrict Council (FUHSD IDC) to run the mental health and wellness portion of the event. FUHSD IDC will be putting together a passport system and will be reaching out to the businesses on Main Street to donate toward something to give out as part of the passport system of visiting booths. We would like to see the Teen Commission supporting the Teen Resource Fair. Commissioner Questions: • Will there be window decorating in the spring with the job fair? o Not in the spring because the event will be at Main Street. We did try to do window decorating in the fall, but there was not enough interest. Maybe in the future at Main Street. • Will the jobs be jobs for all companies in Cupertino hiring part time staff? o No, only City programs. 5. Subject: Discuss and Select Teen Commissioners for Upcoming Speaking Opportunities and City Programs and Events Recommended Action: Discuss and select Teen Commissioners for upcoming speaking opportunities at City programs and events through expressed interest and availability dates.
