Dear Public safety commission members,
Please consider recommending to the City Council installation/adoption of license plate readers and
traffic cam for solving property crimes. My understanding is Cupertino currently does not allow traffic cam
for solving property crimes. Considering the recent rise of property crime in the area, adoption of this
technology for solving criminal cases should greatly benefit the community.
Following are recent noteworthy articles.
"Using the license-plate reading system, officers were able to find the area the car was located in. Police
found the car parked in a driveway in a residential neighborhood."

police/
""Between January and July of 2021 and the same months in 2022, our stolen vehicle recoveries rose
from three to 22," Hoyt said. "That's just an extraordinary measure."
Hoyt said the department is approaching about 100 successful cases that he believes would otherwise
have been very unlikely to have been solved without the resource."
